    Tronaasen readme
    ================

    Tronaasen 2010 simulator track for Grand Prix Legends.

    Historical events are the Rally Monte Carlo in the 1930's (Stavanger-Oslo-Monte Carlo). The tension was great and Tronaasen was constantly reviewed. Tronaasen located in south-vest of Norway is extremely steep and now protected heritage.

    The GPL Track length is 13.1 km/8.1 miles. This including four completely different road types, where the second is the extremely steep Tronaasen section. More info, read section 2 - Tronaasen:

    THE FOUR SECTIONS:

    1 – E39 Lundewater
    ==================
    The first part is the E39 along the Lundewater. This is the original railway line constructed in 1904 to Flekkefjord and rebuilt to road in 1946.

    Along the water here is the road almost flat, quite unlike the rest of this road, but side-terrain is very steep and there are four tunnels.

    Driving GPL: Long curves, most of this fast.

    2 – Tronaasen
    =============
    The second part goes into what is one of the most historic roads in the country, thus Tronaasen. The gradient is more than 1:4, there are eight hairpins up to the top, and three across the top.

    The road was built 1839-44. The hairpins was improved the year 1920 and the road was in operation until 1946, that is when the railroad along the Lundewater was rebuilt to road.

    The gravel grew again with grass and eventually became the road impassable. In connection with the tunnel profiles were expanded along Lundewater in Vest-Agder, was Tronaasen road enabled again in 1973 as a bypass for local traffic and limited to light vehicles.

    It was asphalt paved on the steepest sections and in the 1980s, there was paved more.

    Driving GPL: Take care to centre the car to this extremity narrow road. It's about to control the throttle upward. The downhill and the last hairpin is the steepest. Warning, take extra care here, slow down firmly!

    3 – Tronaasen-Bakke bridge
    ==========================
    The most part is the road narrow and have gravel surfaces and is probably a typical rally kind of way, we can well say. Being from the 1800s here also marks the road with several really dangerous jumps.

    Bakke Bridge is the first Norwegian suspension bridge from 1844 and is so narrow at the pier that the car feels almost like having to take the opening of a garage.

    Driving GPL: With the F1-cars must speed down firmly for these crests to almost avoid fly out of the path. Because of some higher speeds, this is maybe the most dangerous part. The gravel surface is modeled as “type 3” where means less grip than asphalt, but better grip than gravel where isn’t a good choice. The tire skid is just like it was asphalt.

    4 – Rv467
    =========
    Typical Norwegian country road through some houses in an agricultural district along the river Sira. This is now Highway 467, which after a sharp left turn leads into the old E39 south, before it becomes sharp to right at an intersection and onto E39 north.

    Driving GPL: High speed and narrow. At the end it's slower.

    Statistics:
    ===========
    400 sections, 598 split.
    4363 walls (10.9 per section)
    15 laterals
    204593 polygons
    31840 groove polygons
    1075 normal objects
    11 infield-outfield objects
    55 sound spots
    3 sound files

    Special features:
    =================
    * For the public roads like this, the width, gradient and camber fluctuate all over and nothing is static.
    * 5.2 km one lane narrow road.
    * Four Tunnels
    * One chain bridge
    * One traffic-island
    * Public signs on both directions and lights.

    ============
    High. Good graphic card is recommended and not too old computer. The track is complicated. The TV cams is not recommended to move, ctd can arise from a lot of other avoided positions.

          what a wonderful creation :thumbup:

          it must be a real pleasure to drive these historic roads in both real life and GPL

          I can only imagine all the work you put into creating your realistic and beautiful heritage roads

          I've stayed on the road for now, but I'm sure I'll find more beautiful and interesting vistas as I inevitably explore the surrounding fields and forests :lol:

          :thankyou:

            Hi !

            Thanks a million for your new creation. :clap2:

            I test your new track (after resized 53 mip-files with WINMIP2) on my old PIII 933 MHz with Voodoo5 5500 in the 65er-Mod. :thumbup:

            The track is running fine. :hat-tip: I need only 2 cars for first 2 laps (first lap more then 10 mins. in one car, 2nd lap 7:38 with crash 2 times and one new car was needed). :idunno:

            I think a need more training for this "fjord-racing". :shock:

            Greetings

              Jimmy returned to the pits all sweaty and still shaking. He had just done nine practise laps on this peculiar circuit wich had just been added to the 1967 Grand Prix calendar. He was uncertain what would happen when Colin saw his brand new Lotus 49 which now badly needed a new nose cone. A shorter one for this circuit, please! Those hairpins were real killers, especially the downhill ones. Jimmy had now also learned the REAL mening of "Norwegian wood" - the hard way!

              Luckily the team had added a new "shift-R" button in Jimmy´s car which now came into very good use. Speaking of foresight! Too bad that they hadn´t also included a hunting rifle as Jimmy could swear that he had spotted a few big animals with horns! It was very hard to concentrate on driving the car at full speed as Jimmy was in awe just driving around the circuit and looking at the wonders of Norwegian nature. Once, he had even had to stop the car and listen to the birds singing! The mountains and the fjords were so beautiful and reminded Jimmy so much of his beloved Scotland.

              Jimmy cursed his bad luck. He loved his Lotus which was superb on almost any other track in the world but was a nightmare on these hairpins. Even the Gazometer of Monte Carlo seemed to be a fast corner now! He had just done a lap time 5:55 but was sure that Denny and Jack would be much faster in their nimble Brabhams...

                Whew, quite a drive! In order to tackle the hairpins I have to drive with a much more sensitive steering ratio (don't like the steering hack), which makes it extra tricky :) . Thankfully I'm a fast learner and after an hour I figured out most of the track. However you can't go flat out on the extremely narrow bits because before you know it there's a wheel next to the track and you can kiss your lap bye bye. In the end I did a 5:49.81 so pleased here :) .

                Here's a track installer :) . I took the liberty of including my replay as well, hope nobody minds :) .

                I couldn't find the default mod setups or the Lancia newspaper image, but perhaps they are in the DAT.

                  Tragedy in Tronaasen

                  Lotus driver Jim Clark had a bad accident today at the Tronaasen circuit. His Lotus crashed heavily on the mountain section of this demanding circuit and the car hit a group of some nice looking Norwegian spectators. Luckily there were no casualties but one lady got a nasty looking bruise. Mr. Clark was wearing no seatbelts and was very lucky as he only got a slight headache (that could also have been caused by the whiskey he was drinking blended in a cup of tea to cure his bad flu). After the accident Mr. Clark apologized sincerely to the hapless spectators, jumped on his mountain bike for another lap (just for the heck of it!) - and duly stopped the clocks in six minutes!

                      Jimmy isn't only skilful driver :), as his wide-angle view are able to detect elk behind the bushes when racing :blink: . This animals was not secret long time! :yeah: In real life you should be lucky if you don't hit them when driving :shock: .
