Some of you may already have this as it has been kicking around the beta team area for ages. But now I am clearing my desk so you may as well all try it if you wish.

Lancia Stratos Mod

Some time ago I asked permission from Rory to use his Stratos model for a sort of rally type mod for GPL and he agreed.
I made and tested physics with the help of others, and modified the car model to have 7 different liveries ( one in each slot )
At the time we were working on 66mod and this was just a bit of fun for the mod team. Since then it has sat on my HD gathering dust.
Then a few weeks ago, Stuart and I had a few laps online and decided that the community might appreciate what we have made.

So here it is.

NOTE 1 :- I have included two season files, one is named GPLRALLY.ini, the other is championship ini grx.ini.
They both have Machwerk, Gyral, and Lydden tracks listed so you need to have those 3 tracks installed BEFORE installing the mod files.

Note 3 :- The mod works online or against the AI but there are only 7 different cars and numbers ( one in each team ).
The Stratos model is demanding on PC recourses so I would suggest this mod is used with a minimum of other cars on track and definitely not full grids.
The original idea was for its use in time trial events, or as rallycross type events with 5 or 6 cars max.
I would suggest you start by having some laps at Machwerk to get the feel of the physics.
Default setups are included which should work well at most tracks apart from changing final drive ratio to suit.

History :-
The Lancia Stratos was one of the first homologation specials built with the World Rally Championship in mind.
The car uses the "Dino" V6 engine in HF spec giving 265 bhp @7800 rpm.
Because of its very short wheelbase the car is prone to oversteer but this can be used to aid cornering.

Many thanks to RORY GIBSON the author of the Lancia Stratos car model for giving his permission for its use in this mod.
The model has been modified by me. It has working gauges including a working speedometer (kph).

Also thanks to :-
Nigel Pattinson for his patching protocol and tools which enabled me to make the mod.
Richard Cooke for making the Lancia Stratos engine.
Arturo Pereira for making the team layouts.
MECH for making the GEMPICS and team info pics.
Wolfgang Buthe for the sound files.
Stuart Bartosiak, Rob Hunter and others for extensive physics testing.
Bill Cooper for hosting.

NOTE TO BETA TESTERS WITH PREVIOUS VERSIONS
Remove "carsRX" folder from gpl/cars before installing this version.
Remove "gplRX" folder from gpl/mods/gem+ before installing this version.
Remove "gplcrx.exe" from gpl folder before installing this version.

Installation :-

Unzip Stratos_Mod_091209.zip to a temp location.
Inside the Stratos_Mod_091209 folder you will find a gpl folder and a readme.
Make sure you have read carefully the readme.

copy the CONTENTS of the supplied gpl folder to your gpl folder ( allow overwrite )

Getting started :-

create a player in gpl for Stratos, exit gpl.

/start gem.

/click Carsets, make Stratos active, select physics ( GPLRX ).

/select player.

/select Stratos for your player from the box next to Carsets.

/exit gem to build a gplcrx.exe

default settings

carset = carsRX
physics = GPLRX
season = GPLRALLY

Ha Paul and others,

a real surprise! I had never thought this would be the first new mod! Downloading now, to give it a spin tonight. Nice to add a different sort of 'legend' to the expanding gpl-carcollection
Thanks a lot, again!

I did some laps with default setup. It wanted to drift quite much.

Thanks for releasing this Paul, what a nice surprise! I've tried a few laps and it's great fun. The rear end really does want to hang out, doesn't it!    :woot:  :D

A couple of points:

Stratos fans may want to go into the drivRX.ini file and change "Manuri" to "Munari".

I seem to have an odd problem with my mirror being upside-down! I've checked the FAQ and I don't have a "buffer flipping mode" setting in my Nvidia control panel. Strange that it only happens with this mod.    Never mind, not really a problem as I think I'll probably be playing this solo, throwing the car sideways and then watching the replays. (EDIT: And of course with my gung-ho rallying style, the scenery ends up looking correct when I try a bit too hard and land on my roof in a ditch!  :D )

Thanks again Paul and everyone involved.    :clap2:

just my 1% :)

Unexpected, but more than welcomed !!
Drove Machwerk und Gyral for the first time, what astonishing tracks !
(drivRX.ini has only 7 drivers, so you get a CTD, when trying to race with more than 7 AI-opponents)

Thank you

Ding dong dilly dag nab it!   :taz:

I had this day all planned out, revising setups for all cars to go along with a new suspension theory, and you had to go and casually throw this Stratos mod out here.   :taz:   Oh well, this is as good a place to start as any.   :yess:   Thank you very much for this mod.

Saiph:  Do you have the GT40 or Dino installed?  They had the mirror issue also.  Read page 2 of this thread.  https://srmz.racesimcentral.net/inde...?showtopic=1538

Thanks for the heads up, miklkit. I read through the thread, tried changing "run Z-buffer in separate thread" back to "use Z-buffer" and it fixed the problem.

Sigh..... I have a problem.   :ermm:

I created a new driver and installed Lydden Hill.  Then installed the Stratos mod. Went thru GEM and made sure everything looked like it is supposed to.  The only anomaly is that the GRX.ini was missing Lydden Hill.  I moved it in there and then noticed that the GRX season is not listed in the seasons drop down, but GPLRALLY is.  I then went to Machwerk, tinkered with the setup and set all the options and then hit the green button to go to the track.  Instant ctd.  I've been trying lots of different things in an attempt to trace the problem.  Nothing works.
A ctd when hitting the green button is usually a sound problem, isn't it?  I ticked and unticked "patch carset for carsound".  No joy.  The tracks work with other carsets.  I don't know where to look next.

Sound doesn't cause CTD, it would merely hang at the green button.

Imo, this is a fantastic mod, 100% fun to drive, though it demands some practice with the beast  :artist:
