This is the file from Madcowies site. I've never tried it as I had read it was buggy and fps hungry but now with the quicker machines around........

I don't remember who made it and there is no credits readme in the file :(
(see further down)

Here you are:

gt40.zip

Enjoy

Almost forgot to grab this one    Thanks DM!!

Just ran it......I freakin LOVE IT!!   It really adds a new dimension to GPL, you can't see where your front tires are now, so you have to really pay attention to those curbs!! :cap:

[Edit]  You need to make sure to have your original brabham.dat in your folder or it won't work.  I think this has been discussed elsewhere........I'll just shut up now :D

Yes they are. Just edited your links to the threads where the files are. Have a look where the GT40 link points to.

The GT40 and Stratos are both the work of Rory Gibson who remains to this date the only person ever to have released a closed-wheel car for GPL.

He is currently working on a 66/67 Sports Car Mod which includes some of the most beautiful cars ever raced.

His GT40 frequently pops up in various forums to rave reviews, but he is seldom credited.  A true genius and GPL revolutionary, he deserves our full credit and support.

Quite right Fred. I forgot to edit my first post.

Yeah, he's working on the Sports Car Mod, but he is also working on something quite new for GPL. When you see it you will really smile and see how brilliant he is.    ;)

But he is not the only one to try closed wheel cars.  Der_Jaguar has done a Porsche 917, and Mr. Photog has had/will have to do closed wheels of a sort for the mudguards on the Caterham ;)

No, AFAIK the project ran into time difficulties.  Der_Jaguar didn't have enough time to work on the 3do and Bob_Hund didn't have the time to do the texturing either.  There was a 'please help' thread on RSC but the main requirement was for the use of 3ds Max which is a pretty rare quality except in those already too busy to help!

Are there any paint jobs for the GT40's. I seem to recall seeing some different
colors but I can't seem to find any.

        Are there any templates?

a few years back we looked into changing the GT40 base colors, nothing fancy .... but the complexity of the GT40 made it very dificult to change even the base color .... my idea back then was to run spec races, a field of mult-colored GT40's would have been fun .... but to answer your question, I don't think anyone has offered up any color templates, at least none I've never seen .... Ginettos beautiful track Pacific Raceways features some different colored GT40's sitting off track .... could those skins be adapted to Rory Gibsons GT40 ? .... I dunno

        Hi Bob,

The Fords that you see parked around Ginetto's Pacific Raceways track are a different sports car from Rory's original GT40 (MkI).  They are Ford MkII 3do and skins made by Rory.  He is re-working the GPL version GT40 (MkI), that was developed from the original and appeared in 1967 on-wards, to be similar (construction-wise) to this Ford MkII.  So, there will be GT40s, MkIIs and hopefully MkIIBs in the upcoming Sports Car mod for GPL.

Hope this whets your appetite.  ;)

Last night I tried to make the GT40 compatible with the Stratos so that both could be on the track at the same time.   After 2 hours of wading through 3dos I was finished.  Tried it, and got "could not load track".   :hmm:

        Has anyone done this successfully?

I assume you used this enclosed format/directions

I tried to follow it through years ago, but I couldn't get them to work either  :(

maybe some other brave soul is willing to give this a try ?

        best luck
