Good to know Black skull 👍

Hope you've remembered the -h trick for the ICR2 game, to get better graphics. Put the -h in profile section program parameters section box. You can also use that trick for the NASCAR game too.

I'm presuming that things are working now, because you may have downloaded a newer d-fend build 🤔

Anyway enjoy your gaming and don't forget, to try other Dos games, such as ICR1, NASCAR, GP1 & GP2. Plus loads of other classic Dos games 😁

I think about the best ICR2 gets is on Dosbox ECE with the HQ3X scaler. Its an old sim, but she still does a good job!

Primitive by today's standards, but think how that looked to us 23 years ago.

Agree.
I think that all of the early Papyrus games were way ahead of their time - even Indy500

If you look at the games that came out around that time, you do see how far ahead the Papyrus games were. Those games strove for realism, not an arcade game. Also, do they still let people on the ICR2 forums? I created an account a few days back and still haven't heard anything about being accepted.

I do not know if the forums are still "active";  what is there is the remains of the old CartRacingHQ site which died a couple of years ago after a spell of declining interest.  It could be that whoever is now maintaining the site only checks in sporadically.

"Those games strove for realism, not an arcade game."
Which led to the demise of Sierra/Papyrus at the hands of Vivendi.  A new version of NR2003 was in the works but dissent between Kaemmer, who wanted increased realism, and Vivendi, who wanted a more arcade racer (to reach a larger market), causing Kaemmer to walk.

ICR2 forums are very active, ~5 posts a day usually. I'm not sure who administrates them

Reason I use D-Fend, is because it's so user friendly. I've always wanted to use other builds such as ECE, as I've heard that they're much better. Unfortunately I just can't do it.

I thought, with all my technological experience, It would be easy for me, but for some reason I just can't grasp the mounting concept. No matter how many times I've tried, even with various online guides, It just not happening. Mount this mount that, point to this folder point to that folder đŸ˜Ŧ☚ī¸ My head just ends up in a spin and I just can't do it and therefore give in.

I've even tried, on my mobile/cell & Android, with Dosbox turbo and manager, but still no joy. Followed the instructions, with You tube video tutorials and still I can't get mounts to activate. I just get error after error. Even after putting mount cd to change destination, it will refuse to work. Grrrr 😠

I guess I'll just have to stick with D-fend for now, unless one day the penny drops and I manage to solve my inadaquecy of understanding mounts đŸ˜Ŧ🤔

I've used D-Fend for ages because it is relatively simple.  Occasionally I have DOSBox issues and go to Vogons for help, where often the answer is so complicated that it leaves me thinking, "if I understood this I wouldn't be here asking for help".

GamesNostalgia has a decent selection of old games that come bundled with a DOSBox already configured, just unzip to a folder and play.  The most tweaking you may need is to adjust the speed to your computer.

TP,

You can easily start a game in DOSBox by simply dropping the .exe over the shortcut on your desktop. DOSBox will then immediately run it, with the exception of ICR2. I had to actually mount that one.

Nice link jgf- GamesNostalgia. Will have a browse at that 👍🙌

Thanks Elijah for the Dosbox tip. Worth a try. Wonder if you could do it with ECE 🤔

Cheers all

I do not mean to resurrect this thread, but does anyone know how to install tracks into ICR2? I installed IMS and Miami today, put them into the game folder, added them to the calendar using Notepad++, and saved that, and checked the calendar to make sure they were there. Yet, when I run the game I get an error saying that there is not enough memory. Any tips?

ICR2 has limit to number of tracks in the game. When there are too mucny tracks then game won't load. Also you don't need to add tracks to calendar. It's only for championship mode.

Check your DOSBox settings, some of the newer tracks require a bit more memory than the defaults.  I don't remember if there is a numerical limit on the number of tracks, I had about thirty installed and all worked fine (if you added the tracks to the season you may have hit a limit there).

I know what Dosbox is but what is "Dosbox ECE"?  Where do you find the HQ3X scaler?

ECEseems to be a fork of Dosbox with various patches applied.
HQ3X scaler can be found in the conf.ini, see here

All this information was obtain using a new website where you can type in your questions called google.com. I highly recommend using it, makes for much faster success rate than waiting for answers here.
