Hi guys,
I`ve just come across this thread and I`m actually quite interested in having separate installs for all the different mods for GPL. Not that I have anything against using Gem at all, I just think it may be easier to work with?
Anyway, if I do go down the separate installs route, how is it done? Is it as simple as say, for example, copying over my original GPL install and removing the cars and tracks for that season (which is the original 67 season installed with the Beta 1.08 Installer) and then installing the mod and tracks etc for that season and that`s it or is there more to it than that?
Could Gem still be used for each separate install?
Any info would be appreciated.

My preference has been separate installs, then point GEM+ to them.
To install Mod first install GPL in folder off C-drive using 1.08 Installer, (C\Can-Am\Sierra\GPL, for instance), then run the Mod Install and point it to that folder. Once done with that open GEM+ and connect it to new Mod install.

Thanks John.
Just wondering though, when GPL is installed from the CD and the v1.08 installer the 67exe, 67 cars and tracks are also installed (obviously) so if I want an install for say, just the 65 mod do I just remove the 67exe and 67 cars and tracks and put in the tracks that were used in the 65 season in reality?

Once Mod is installed, open GEM+ and point it to the Mod, then with GEM+ select Mod and carset, start Mod and GEM+ will create the Mod specific EXE.
After that you can create a desktop shortcut to that EXE or continue to use GEM+.
Here's some icons:https://srmz.racesimcentral.net/inde...topic=12012&hl=
And some more: https://srmz.racesimcentral.net/inde...936
Using GEM+ you can then create an accurate Season file with proper tracks.
No need to delete anything.

Ok, I`ll install a fresh GPL with the installer... install the 65 mod. Open Gem etc etc etc.
So I take it that all the tracks needed for the 65 season will have to be installed into that new GPL install... (yes ) then I make the season file in Gem.
But if I don`t need to delete/remove anything then surely all the 67 tracks and cars will be in that new "65 mod" install and if it`s an install just for the 65 mod then all those 67 tracks and cars aren`t needed?
Forgive the noob questions, just never done it this way before.

You could do a single install with all OEM and all Mods in same folder.
Many users do that and have been happy to recommend it.
It does not matter how "clean" a folder is because GPL will only call up the files it wants, so when making season folder select the tracks on the left side panel in GEM+ that complete the 65F1 season folder on the right.
As I understand, it is a good idea to install tracks that were not in the 67 season and were in the 65 season before installing the Mod. (After installing GPL and GEM+, then the tracks, then the Mod...this way the correct season file is created with the install).
Also you might want to try Targa, Road America, IOM with the 65s so might want them and others available, just not in the 65 season folder.

Ok, interesting. I`ll experiment a bit with things and see how I get on.
Cheers John.

I`ve not really managed to try separate installs yet guys but I have a simple question... what takes up more disk space? Separate installs for all the mods you want to run or installing all the mods in one GPL folder? I`m ok for disk space but simply curious...

Tracks are about the only thing that needs duplication, all other files are small compared to that. For perspective my SIERRA folder (all GPL stuff) has 30Gb. The tracks folder in that takes up 12Gb. So about 40%, the rest I wager is mostly car skins, image files being what they are.
I'd go for a single install, use GEM to keep things apart. But its a matter of taste in the end.
Something you could to is use symbolic links to link the track folder from the original install to the mod installs. Sym Links work like shortcuts, but windows sees them as proper folders not as a different object as it does with shortcuts. I'm not sure if GPL plays well with SymLinks though as I never had the need to link a folder for GPL use.
EDIT: Here are some links you may find helpful, regarding symbolic links

I`ve gone for a single install for now but would like to thank all of you who provided info on separate installs for me. Having the one install just seemed better for me I think. Many thanks for the info Michkov, much appreciated.
