as you can see in GEM, the picture on the upper left corner has pics of the real 67 races starting grids  included in each  " subcarset ". it is only a matter of habit, if you aren 't familiarised with the 1967 F1 tracks they used, including the non championship rounds,

By convenience, give a special name to the one AND ONLY season.ini file for this carset. On my install, you see 67HISTOS

You don't want to play later with this file, as the correct cars entrants and liveries that are after all the main objective of the historical mod  will display ONLY for the tracks included in the file.

can you tell more about " it doesn't integrate well with the other mods " ?

It has to do with how I enjoy racing sims, which harks back to how I enjoyed real world driving - actual racing probably accounts for no more then ten percent of my track time ...I just love driving.  I enjoyed taking a high performance car on the track on T&T days as much, if not more, than racing;  the world disappeared, it was me, the car, and the track ...and the days were much too short.

In racing sims I typically pick a sim, pick a mod, pick a car, pick a track, and start driving.  A couple of times a month I may race (which usually leads to AI tweaking again,  especially in simbin titles, eventually I notice all my time is spent tweaking and I haven't turned a lap in days).

The '67 Historic mod does not lend itself to this style;  it replicates a very specific group of cars for a very specific group of tracks in a very specific order, you can't just fire up one of the exes and run a race at Road Atlanta or Machwerk;  to me it is a separate game.  Hence a separate install just for these cars and these tracks (and hence my question in another thread if the last group of cars in this mod, representing the end of the season, could be used as a standalone alternative to the default cars).  A separate install also reduces clutter;  the Historic mod is basically seven small independent mods, I already have seven mods in my main GPL install;  less chance for an incipient geezer to accidentally cross something up and have to reinstall.

thks for your clear answer .

Taking advantage of the carset7 tweaked .exe for others tracks has been finally more on demand, that  being surrounded with the fantastic liveries around the player on the correct historic tracks . Maybe the little confusion around the 67 Historical carset, since it has been offered.

The battle between pure simracers, often oriented with what the new physics engines can offer(rather online or hot lapping approach), and those who want to experiment more what the real drivers of the times cld feel when driving against period opponents ...

One install for all mods; except 1966 F2 which is separate because it was a beta and not the finished, polished version.

1966 F2 is a favourite of mine, I love that Renault Alpine.  Are there any plans to finish it?

as you, that' s the only one I did a separate install for, but not having used it often, I didn't remember !

Is the project still going on, I don't know.

And I am in both camps, so must race twice as much, lol.  As happy replicating a real world season as in staging an F1 race at Mid-Ohio or running the '69 cars at Masaryk.

As usual - appreciation for how people take the time to try to help folks like me :D .

I have ended up with a separate install for the 67 Historical Mod as it felt busy with files and stuff. The rest are in one install.

Separate installs for each mod for me, with only the Championship tracks and the non championship races for that particular year and the correct event covers and details. Probably a bit more work to set up initially, but as has been said, if I break one mod it won't affect the others.

Also have a general purpose install which has all kinds of stuff installed to try out... it's a real mess :D

I also have a seperate install for each mod. Mainly for the same reasons as Fat Rich. It results in several but more streamlined installs.

Also, I like to save and keep the replays of both my practice sessions and my race sessions. Sould all mods be in one install, the replay fridge would soon be pretty full ^_^.

For a single install, replay folders for mods can be kept separate using these patches.

Just 55 mod missing I think.

aside, you 'll find below how GEM will display the seven 67 Historical mod "subcarsets".
    from left to right, carset 4,1, 2, 3, 5 and below 6 and 7.

Don't take into account the car I selected, as it is a complete separate choice within the 67 historical mod, as for others mods.

    Hello NeedforSpeed,

In your GEM-pics, under the optional utilities section, you have a 78m v.01 Spray-option. What does that do and can it be downloaded somewhere?

    Thanks,

    Tom

I wanted to post to warn that replays are not a problem with only one install, if you use GEM, but thks webfoot to remind us with rcb post about the solution

It gives the possibility to get spray effect coming out of the rear wheels. Spray can reproduce water when racing on raining conditions, or dust. But presently this patch limitation is that for a complete set of AI's , only some cars will show spray.Afaik,it is still in the experimentation phase, but I am only one of the testers, and all the work  is done by Lee Bowden at the repository.

Anyway, another path toward RL for GPL and its secrets !

Not to forget Gilles Maltais, who was pioneering this patch more than ten years ago, when he wanted to implement rainy days conditions. But it stayed a very private thing. I didn 't know how to share it, as it was not a simple xml file to put in your option folder.
