I hope you enjoyed my update for Jéhonville. Now it's time for Nivelles! Yes, again a track from Belgium. My final goal is to have all existing (non-fantasy) Belgian GPL tracks with nice graphics. Spa and Zolder are already covered by the community, I've tackeled Jéhonville and now Nivelles, so only Chimay is left as far as I know. That will be my next project, but I'll keep it to a basic touch-up there.
Not so for this Nivelles, which is a (near) total texture update and historical correction!

Nivelles 1974 Nicolas Update:
Updates the original Nivelles for Grand Prix Legends.
This upgrade focuses on higher res realistic textures, improves drawing distances, and improves historical accuracy for 1974.
Updating the textures was a challenge: being 12 years old, the track often uses small textures that are often repeated, so high res alternatives didn't always work well. Many advertisement textures are also re-used in places where in reality there were different ads, so I had to choose there. That's why there are no team names above the pits. Where possible, I created textures from actual photos of the track, often period photos.
Improving the historical accuracy was also a challenge: I was of course limited by the original 3D models, and on top of that historical information on Nivelles is scarce and often unclear whether it refers to 1972 or 74. The Hertz ads for example were there in 72, but I don't know about 74. In any case I replaced the original ads by ads that were certainly there in at least 72 or 74. That's why eg Mintex and Gulf are gone and replaced by Zwarte Kat and Hertz.
I also created a new horizon, using actual photography from a few 100m away from the track location. Orientation of the horizon is correct for the track orientation. Oh, one more thing...I restored a copy of the original stunning programme cover by Jean Graton (Michel Vaillant) so start drooling even before the track is loaded!
Install Nivelles 1974 Nicolas Update:
Just unzip this folder into your GPL/Tracks/Nivelles folder.
Allow to overwrite files if prompted.
Default variant of Nivelles 1974 Nicolas Update:
-LongDraw
If you encounter performance problems, specifically but not necessarily only at the start-finish line, use ShortDraw instead. ShortDraw is the drawing distances of the original 2002 release of the track. Easier on your PC, but it will cause pop-ups, hidden geometry in the distance, and it will show strange elements in the new backdrop that only work well with LongDraw.
All source material used for the textures in this update is assumed to be free of copyright and use. If any errors have been made in this respect, please notify me on SimRacing Mirror Zone and I'll replace the texture.
Have Fun!
