As you know, new Road Atlanta and new Watkins Glen for CanAm are released. And admins of GPLRank have question for community.

Actually CanAm-rank including old Roada and origin Papy WG 67 without Boot.
  • We can replace their to new and more authentic versions in rank.
  • Or create new CanAm-rank (v2) with new Road Atlanta 1971 and short WatGlen 71.
  • We can do nothing too :)

What the community thinks about this?

Replace them. if v2, this would not be definitive. what happens when a revised mosport or laguna is released , v3? were would the v2,3,4,5 end?

Replace them. :)

V2 doesn't make sense, because a new Road America and Mid Ohio are also already in work.

I will be very happy with replacing the old roada and watglen, with the new roatla71 and watgCA71 in the CA71 rank definition. But please note also that the benchmark of Road Atlanta needs to be updated to 1:17:7. Thanks. :)

Replace the tracks in question. Maybe the sane could be done in regard of the 2 65 ranks?

This is a difficult question. If you start replacing tracks, people may question why they should work hard for a rank at all. It may discourage them from driving for ranks. It's a bit like changing the rules of the game after the game is over. People who are no longer driving may still have a rank, so, in a way, they are still competing even after leaving us. Their rank survives them. This adds to the total of people who are still "active" in GPL, which is a good thing.

There is also a problem with creating V2 ranks. I don't think anyone competes for the 65 V1 rank with the old Clermont track. That is a dead rank, but at least it's still there and honors the people who worked for it. A person might even try to improve upon it.

If I had a vote, I would vote to create a V2 rank, but wait until all tracks currently in development are released. I know this might be years away, but if you are still playing GPL you know how to be patient. Or maybe it is possible to create a V2 rank with the track list incomplete. You could submit your times, but you might not get a rank until the tracks are complete. I don't really know, I'm just thinking outloud.

As I said, this is a difficult decision, but I think it's best to respect the people who contributed in the past by not changing their rank. I also think that this is best for the long-term health of GPLRank. The Rank is really the only reason I still drive GPL.

Edit: I don't think anyone will suggest replacing the Spa track when the new one is out.

I cannot even get WATGCA71 to work, so I'd be more in favor of a V2. But one person cannot decide for thousands lol :P

Keep it simple......   Raplace  tracks on Can Am and eliminate 65v1 and let only one rank per mod and invite all old chaps, that are away for the moment, to make new times (if they want of course)
The easier the better for all since new mods as new track will come out, any time and everybody want to have to be register in here also.
Tanks Good this old sim is still renewing itself after all years and make us ruterun time after time.

And By the way THX on the name of our litlle comunity to keep the good work on your job and of your companions  also by keepeing all this runing fine for us.

I'd replace the old CanAm rank with a new (with the to be released tracks) rank.
And as mentioned by matak, also get rid of the 1965 v1 rank.

Currently some benchmark times are inaccurate with the performance of the CanAm cars, looking at the goal times at the mod's site, the World Records on GPLRank and my (bad  ) lap times.
Some are so ridiculously low you can not even -if not only- match it with the McLaren M8F.

In my opinion, this should not be based on the pole position of real life, but closer to the goal times. This way there would be a better balance between negative and positive lap times.

Of course there are a couple of track in process so I bear that in mind here ;)

Yes replace the old CanAm rank, Please !

Also the CanAm benchmark times for some tracks need a correction.
    (e.g. Laguna67 benchmark 0:58,780 Worldrecord 1:01,284)

(If you want, I can help you with the benchmark times, I wrote own rankings for our racing team, with Excel)

.....and thx for your work ! :clap2:

While I am very much in favor to replace in the CA71 Rank the less authentic tracks with the new ones, and this to be continued when more will be available (though I don’t think it’s something imminent). I will not move away from the GPL mods tradition of having the rank track benchmarks defined as the best real life historical laps. I do understand that there are cases where this definition is unrealistic; either is too fast or too slow for GPL cars. But it’s just an independent definition. Any other definition comes from a personal judgment, or if based on statistic values subject to be out of date as soon as more lap times will be made available.

In the specific case of the CA71 rank definition, I would like to have amended the benchmark defined for Road Atlanta from 1:07:70 to 1:17:07, as that, I suppose, was an editorial mistake.

Just my opinion and in any case thanks a lot to keep the GPLRank active. Very much appreciated. :thanks:
