Here is a patch for GPL which simulates fog, rain, and wet weather conditions.  It uses GPL's fog effect to decrease the player's visibility, decreases the track surface grip, and slows the AI.

The fog effect has been part of GPL since it's inception, but it wasn't until many years later that Nigel programmed the v2 rasterisers to display it.

The patch works with all mods and tracks and was tested both on and offline by the test team members.  It is simple to install and may be easily turned on or off by using GEM+'s checkbox.

Server operators can set the fog level so that online racers will see the same visibility and each car will have the same track surface grip.  League administrators may enjoy using the patch to enhance their league race schedule.

Please read the Read Me for the installation instructions and detailed notes on how it works.

Enjoy the patch, but beware, the roads can be slick out there!  :man-on-ice:

Thank you, Lee!  I had fun being a beta tester for it and I know that people will find this a vey nice addition to GPL.  It's a really fun patch!

Great work, Lee

Wow! Another major GPL announcement. Is 2014 the busiest GPL year since the GPLEA days?

Now for Nurburgring in the morning!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, LEE

I had been away from GPL for some months and just discovered this. Will be another major enhancement.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It works with any mod?

Edit: Thinking in online racing... Is there any way to impede or at least to detect if somebody IS NOT using the patch? I'm thinking that some drivers could race without the patch while others do use it, with the obvious advantage of the formers...

Thanks again, marcos.

Hello again.

As my second question remained in the middle of another messages, I repeat it here:

Thinking in online racing... Is there any way to impede or at least to detect if somebody IS NOT using the patch? I'm thinking that some drivers could race without the patch while others do use it, with the obvious advantage of the formers...

Thanks again, Marcos.

No.

This question was raised by the test team too.  Without somehow passing the patch status information between the server and client, there is no way to determine who is and who is not using the patch.  The server does not even have to use the patch.  So if someone wants to cheat, they can.  However, if you are a player who is using the patch and you are struggling for grip rounding the Parabolica and someone blows past you, you can be pretty sure that they are not using the patch.  So the league administrators should be able to determine from replays if there is any cheating going on.

Cheaters will always find a way to cheat.  I hope at this stage of GPL's life that those who cheat are few and far between.

Thanks Lee

Yes, I guess that there's must be relatively easy to determine it.

I'm not thinking in cheaters, but in people entering the server just when the racing is starting, reading nothing about it. Last-minute guys are common in every league, I guess...

Cheers, Marcos.
