Hi lads,

I've just bought a new race sim, Assetto Corsa, and I want to share my feelings about this game with you.
They say it is "the best driving simulator now on the market" (reviews and customer comments). I was a bit doubtful about that but, after some days of racing around, I must say that I mostly agree.
I play GPL since 2002/2003. I played RFactor and RFactor 2. I also enjoyed some other racesims during these years. But Assetto Corsa is really something completely new. If you have 35€ to spend (don't know in dollars how much it is on Steam), I think it is worth it. What I really like is also the "developers tool" they will soon release which will give modders the chance to add tracks and cars using the same software used by Kunos itself.
Every car has it's physics, not like Rfactor 1/2.
I mostly drove the Lotus 49 at monza66, and it's wonderful. A total blast. Never had so much fun before.
In conclusion, I'm really enjoying this sim and for me it is totally worth the 30 bucks. Glad I've listened to the others who suggested me to try it.
What do you guys think?

Still don't have it, because of its current beta status, insufficient number of historic cars and my ancient hardware. However, it's going to be one of my first investments after upgrading PC during upcoming spring. Hopefully the announced '75 Ferrari 312T will be available by then and some other vintage machinery will follow soon!

yeah for now there's only 2: lotus 49 and ferrari 312. Hopefully after the release they will add more in some historical dlc. I'm okay with dlc, I prefer to pay to add some new cars, choosing those I want, instead of paying subscriptions and fees. I don't like the "pay or don't play" policy of Iracing or Rfactor. With dlc you can "not pay and still play", only buying cars and tracks you want (like Rise of Flight, a masterpiece in the flightsim world that I frequently play).
This week two members of Kunos went to see some big heads in Maranello. Hopefully they'll get the license also for a new historical car. Rumors talk of a gt or a prototype from the '60es or '70es.

The beta will soon be over. They are releasing every two weeks new cars and tracks until they get to 35 cars and 11 tracks, which are the one to be included in the final version. This weekend we are getting three new cars and two new tracks. It should be over for february or march.

I think that you might have answered a question for me. I've played GPL for years now. I'm now looking for something more up to date. I've still to get on GPL rank so will always be returning.

I think this should be in the "I wanna talk about other sims or games" section.

You are right Saiph, I'm sorry :( I didn't see there was such a section ouside the Grand Prix Legends Forum. Moreover, they are already talking about this sim there in a specific topic.
Should I delete or move my topic?
I apologize again :(

No need to delete it, just request that a mod move it.

I haven't tried AC yet, but it does look very promising and I like what I hear others saying about it.  This and RF2 give me high hopes for the future of serious sim racing simulations.

Has this game single play (AI opponents) or is this more a multiplayer game?

Notice the word "will".  Currently it doesn't have AI or multiplayer, but it is offered at a discount if you buy it now before the features are added.

Hi guys (and girls if present),

I bougth, downloaded and installed it. Then I got a call from my girlfriend and got told that she broke her leg. So for now all tests are canceled. As soon as I get to drive I'll tell you how it feels.

HAve a nice day.

Bought this a couple of days ago, it looks like it could be a great game assuming the AI is going to be as good as the rest of it.

The website claims it has legendary circuits but apart from the current Spa circuit that's a big exageration. The historic Monza and the modern chicane version, several layouts for Silverstone, Imola, Nurburg GP Circuit are good circuits, Vallelunga and Mugello are nice enough too, but the shorter Silverstone layouts, Vallelunga Club and Magione circuits are far from legendary. Magione is like mucking about in a supermarket car park, it'll need some proper legendary circuits to be released pretty quick to be taken seriously.

There are some good cars (and more coming) but again they'll need some additional iconic cars to keep people interested. The physics are great, lots of grip at low speeds and it's pretty easy to go fairly fast. But actually going proper fast becomes very difficult and very addictive.

It also has some Steam challenges, for example:

Old GPLers know why this is important
Beat 1:30:00 at Monza (historical) with the Lotus 49

Faster than Jim Clark, Chapman would be proud of you
Beat 1:28:50 at Monza (historical) with the Lotus 49

If you've got a fast PC and £30 to spare I'd definitely recommend it, but you may want to wait to see if the AI is any good. But GPL is still putting a bigger smile on my face than anything else I've driven, even if it lacks some realism.

How controllable are the slides? Easier or harder than in gpl?

They are both harder and easier!

The Lotus 49 in Assetto Corsa feels completely different to GPL, it's much less sideways but prone to understeer if you enter a corner too fast. And much snappier oversteer if you put too much power on. I find it much trickier to drive fast than GPL and requires quicker corrections on the steering and throttle. However the physics are much better than GPL so I feel like I've got more clues what is happening with the car, so in that respect it's easier. The way it regains grip is really good.

Having said that I find GPL's Lotus more fun to drive but it feels very unrealistic compared to modern sims, but the other cars in Assetto Corsa are fabulous. It's shaping up to be a great game in my opinion, we got the Ferrari F40 on Friday and it's a real challenge. I can't wait for Niki's 1975 Ferrari 312T and Ayrton's 1982 Lotus 78T.... 1200 bhp!

And also it feels like they've got the radius of Monza's Lesmo 2 correct, really wide and open for the '66 track and then the tighter 1994/1995 change to 35m radius. The attention to detail is amazing, they're even included the graffiti that's painted under the old banking at the crossover.

I've had this for about a month. I've just a basic computer and have struggled with frame rates. Everything has been turned off, and that has helped. At the moment we are hot lapping. There's a drift course and also a drag strip. I saw that a Ford Mustang, Escort and  an AC Cobra are in the pipeline.
