Hi all,

This is an update for the 1966 McLaren M2b. Drop these files in the car folder to install the update. This means
putting them in the ...\Sierra\GPL\cars\cars66\c12 directory .

Enjoy!

in any way).Please do not sell these files for money. This is freeware.

Thanks to Paul Skingley, Rémy Roesz for the exhaust texture, and Klaus Hörbrand for WinMip!

Ummm.... The first 3 previews show as thumbnails so I can't see a damn thing there, but I'll get and try the update anyway. Thanks!

Really nice work Tommie, the Mclaren stands out even more because of it's unique livery too, great job. I just wish I enjoyed the '66 physics more but most of the cars feel like they have some kind of a 'slime' around the wheels but with grip, that's the only way I can decribe it, there is no feeling of feedback in the cars, they feel instead quite sort of 'lifeless'.

I know what you mean. Close to the end of physics development we were at a crossroad between one version of the physics and another. I preferred the first version but we went with the other one. I remember something about a lot of drivers complaining about overheating tires with the version I preferred, although I had no problems. We literally tried out hunderds of physics versions and I wasn't even there from the start. The physics we came up with for the release is, in my opinion, not the very best we came up with, but it's a very good version nevertheless :) .

If they feel lifeless to you, try a car with another setup. I usually take a Greger Huttu (GH or GH2) setup. For the McLaren a 1967 Brabham BT24 setup is always very pleasurable to drive, for me personally. The car is the stiffest chassis on the 1966 grid, with roughly the same dimensions as the BT24, so if set up right it can be very pleasureable to drive :) . The engine isn't one of the best (in fact it's one of the worst) but at extremely twisty tracks the car can be relatively competitive.

Tommie.

Tommie, is this some kind of a very old (but somehow unreleased so far) update, or did You pack the wrong files into the zip? I'm asking this, because I've noticed today, while extracting the archive, that:
a ) all files are from january 2008 (apart from the readme obviously);
b ) I already had them in my c12 folder, and I don't recall installing anything for my 66 mod since Irridux's "66 historic update". Maybe they were already released God knows how may moons ago? After all, the only place I could probably get them from was our forum!

Cheers - Art

Art you are right. It's an update that I made in January of 2008, but never released due to lack of time. I did give it to a couple of guys from the mod team, that's probably how it ended up in Irridux' 66 historic update. Compared to Irridux' files, these have a new, historically accurate McLaren AI skin for Brands Hatch (as can be seen in the preview picture), as well as a refined engine cover texture.

Tommie.
