1st, love your new mod, 3.0, it’s better than most of the race games I bought. Thanks for all your hard work. My question
is about GTR2. What programs do you use to open up the files in GTR2, uidata folder? I’ve tried Gimp, but I keep getting an error saying
“ Unknown File type “. Someone suggested Gimp, because it’s free & should work. I don’t want to pay for a program unless I have to &
know it’s going to work. I also tried Adobe Photoshop, Free trial version & Paintshop Pro7, neither worked. I wanted to try changing the colors on the backgrounds in the menus. Thanks for any help, it would be appreciated.

The files that you see there with .GMT extension are .PNG image format files (perfect for the menu images), with just the extension renamed so that GEditor could pick them when packing the files.
If you wish to make such personal modifications, then you'll need to extract those .GMT files inside the .GTR files with GEditor (ignore the error prompts it gives), then rename their file extension to .PNG, after which you'll then be able to open them with any common image editor software (Photoshop, Paintshop, Gimp, etc).
After you're done, either place your edited menu images (with file extension renamed as .GMT again) as loose files in the main game folder, or pack them again inside the correct .GTR package file with GEditor (make a backup prior to that just in case).
