Hi all,
Just wanted to fill you all in on how the system works.

When you donate to our home you get 2 days for every dollar donated.
So a 5 dollar donation gives you 10 days od supporter status.
It scales according to the amount given with no limit.

After some thinking I have increased the time to 3 days per dollar donated.
So as of now a 10$ donation gets you just about a month of supporter status.

Seems more reasonable this way.

I also am working on some other things related and will add another group to the system to give more
recognition to our supporters.

If you have questions regarding the system please feel free to ask here in this tread.

What your donations give you at the moment are-
Helping me pay for the servers, software, licenses etc.
Also access to a members area that is under construction, the ability to post articles in the articles section.
More as we figure out what we need and want :)

Many thanks to those that do!

Dear Bill,

Thank you very much for this explanation of changes the ‘Supporter’ system.

The time and dedication that you spend in work on this community is immense, but I feel that your financial contribution to the Community is not appreciated by many of the other members - and you seem to be much too self-effacing to comment on this other than obliquely.

In the beginning of my ‘relationship’ with the community, I thought that it was wonderful and free, Then I learned that the cost to run the website was about 3600 dollars per year and was being provided mainly by you, so I became a regular (minor) supporter and am proud to see the notation ‘Supporter’ under my avatar, rather than just ‘Member’.
It annoys me greatly when I see contributions from people who evidently have spent a great deal of money on equipment; subscriptions to other sims; etc; etc; who do NOT have ‘Supporter’ under their avatars and are free-loading on Bill.

COME ON PEOPLE !  - what happens if Bill gets fed up and ceases to pay YOUR dues, the whole lot could disappear

- and Bill, a suggestion ,can you arrange to put a contributions bar graph on the ‘New Content’ page as well as on the ‘SRMZ’ Home page ? It needs to be put in front of those who check in by ‘New Content’ only.

Well said Paddy my entire thoughts indeed !! We all need to support this site and the community so it never ever vanishes from our computer.Which I might add would be a very sad day indeed. It would send a lot of us into cold turkey and wishing SRMZ was still available.Lets all get those cyber wallets out and contribute please!

Thanks Bill for everything :hat-tip:

Thanks, Bill, for this explanation (no idea that was how it worked) and for the additional day.
So now off to change my status.

Hi Andreh
I see the issue, Your donation was done before I increased the time per dollar.
It was at 1 days per dollar and now it is 3 but the system seems to not have made the adjustment on the prior donation.
I will see if I can make the change easily and give some more time.

The costs that Bill Cooper has to pay to keep all the GPL sites online is about 300 $ per month!

I just made my donation to keep SRMZ, GPL Repository, GPL Alternative Track Database (GPLTD), Speedgeezers Forums alive.

How about you? ;)

Use the Donation tab on top of the forum:
