I have just downloaded Sudschleife for GTR2, converted from Rfactor and all I can say is that if it is ever relesed for GPL it is likely to become one of those legendary tracks, spoken of in the same breath as the Targa, Dundrod, the Isle of Man and a few others.

Hallo Benzman ,

Could you place a YouTube film (if possible) of Sudschleife for GTR2  converted from Rfactor please ?
Just out of curiosity .
greets :hat-tip:

Here we go:-
Please ignore the dreadful driving, the lack of audio and the ugly watermark.  This is my first attempt at making a video and uploading it to YouTube, using all freeware stuff.  Hopefully, it will give some idea of what Sudschleife looks like.

There's been a number of circuits that were converted from GPL to GTR2 over the years. Is there any way to do the reverse?

Maybe Dave Noonan has a private converter but no known released converter that I've heard of.

I don't think there is a way to create a TRK file if there is no one.
Watching the posted video though, I can say that the actual GPL beta is not that far behind from it. Hope someone will take it and finish it.

There was a conversion method for GP2 to GPL but that still wasn't capable of converting every GP2 track.
Most of the time it produced either a track with only a couple of traces (and it still had no pitlane) or it wouldn't convert at all.
So it would still take a lot of time to finish a converted track from GP2.

It might be possible to create a converter that would convert tracks but the question would be for which SIM?
It takes a huge time to develop something like that and would only have sense if the SIM had enough tracks that aren't built yet for GPL.
Anyone know which SIM would qualify for this?

By doing that you basically get the elevation info from the track you're converting; nothing more. If the data are correct, OK (see iRacing data) but if the elevation are made up (see rfactor), then I guess it's easier to start from ground level and create a GPL track in the usual way. You will have to do all the work anyway. The asphalt strip and its elevations can be well done in a month top. To properly finish the track you will need another 6 months. With GPL time variations so can become years... :)

Maybe GP3? I know there are number of GPL tracks converted from GP3. I know there is way to convert GP3 tracks to ICR2. I'm not familiar with GP3 track structure and never tried to convert tracks. But from what I read converter create only trk files, which still need some fixes. For me it is easier to make tracks for ICR2 from scratch than converted it from other game ;)

Ah thx, that's easy then even the plain old copy command of DOS could do.

I hope so too.  It is a great track to drive around with some very quick corners.

Had a fun drive Saturday on the Südschleife, as I had some time to kill before going back home after VLN was canceled! Hope this track will be released for GPL someday, it belongs in the game.

Shouldn't Müllenbach have more houses? What is left of that part of the track is now FILLED with houses and buildings, was it really only one shed only 45 years ago?

Strava might know the ins and outs of the file differences as he edits rFactor these days.

I have a GP3 to GPL converter still, ironically I saw it just the other day.

If anyone was silly enough to make this track I can offer some files to help, some of the Nurburgring build files (and how to get the rest) and I have already made the Nurb Warmup track and still have those build files I believe which would help for a scratch build start.

In fact if one had all the Nurb build files it may make life easier being a matter of removing sections as required and bending and twisting the rest into shape - maybe.

Would still need to get the rFactor or GTR2 track into a 3D viewer to get the track's plotting.

Ok, twightlight zone time ....

I have a GPL version of Sudschleife  on my computer!

Let me correct that, I have a fully functioning beta version with working AI, my guess is Smoggy sent it to me to finish it off, I'll email him and find out what's the go ....
