Here is my new sound for the ferrari.

I feel that this version (taken from a high quality recording) better captures the soul and the beauty of the V12 howl :D

Hope you enjoy it!

Edit: I've also made a new sound for the lotus! This is taken from a recording of the engine in action (admittedly on a workbench  ) .

Edit: Made a new sound for the Cooper (sounds a bit like a softer Ferrari), made a new hard hit sound (a small explosion followed by hissing and cooling ticks) and made new fence hit sound.

Thanks to mitxel for the Gearshift sound (now shorter, volume optimised and with less noise at the end)

Edit: Ferrari sound now quieter to fit in with the rest of the field (old one still available - named ferloud)

Enjoy these additions.

Hi! Glad you like the sounds  :)

About the '65 Ferrari - I cannot seem to find any good clips of the car revving or going round a track - the only good one I found had someone talking over the top of it! :idunno:

Anyway, if I can find a clip of it then I will definitely make a sound for it.

Took fire sound, crash soft and medium from Simbin's Race 07

I didn't know Simbin is using Creative Commons License for their sounds.

  oh dear... I don't know... I go them from sounds contained within an addon (they aren't used ingame)

  Do I have to remove them? I couldn't be more sorry if I was doing anything wrong.

Wondered about this also after putting up the gpllink link but don't have a clue about it. One thing I thought was, well, people use GPL stuff in their favorite sim, seemingly without caring much about what the creator thinks.

bingo, try contacting the creator of the add-on files you used and get permission to use them. Did you edit them or just wholesale copy/convert them? Not that I think that matters.

I just converted them. They come from the PMSC 2007 mod originally for rfactor. I can't find a way to contact them. I shall take them down with immediate effect until permission is obtained. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I can't seem to edit top post so here's a modified ferrari sound which sounds better on long straights (volume corrected again   ) and a quieter cooper sound:

Very good files bingo !

The Cooper V12 is most authentic. I made a file sounding exact like Yours, witch i never posted for the Cooper, but in
the GPLSO Ferrari sound set as midrange or high range file.
https://www.racesimle...ead.php?tid=557

Your Ferrari sound remembers a lot at the GPLEA Ferrari sound, but with a little bit better loop.

How do You make those files. Are they extractions of original recordings ?

Thx and go ahead !

Wolfgang

Thanks Wolfgang! Glad you like them!

They are new extractions of originals. The ferrari was taken from the recording of an onboard lap of monza and the cooper was from the onboard lap at spa (these seem to be the same recordings you took yours from. :)).

For making the sounds, I use audacity. (I could go into detail, but I'm not sure if that's what you asked :idunno: )

Hope that answers your question.

I hereby apologise for the quality of the lotus sound contained in the top post. Upon racing with it, I found it became too harsh and annoying to drive with. Sorry about that.

I made a new one, but then I heard ducwolf's sound which is far superior

Hey Bingo,
no apologize needed for Your serious attempt to make GPL better !
It's a loong way to improve sounds in GPL.
Don't forget to continue. The Cooper sound You've posted is very good and the Ferrari file
shows us that You understand what is to do.

Thank You,

Wolfgang

Hello!

I have re-done the cooper sound - it's from the same recording  but taken from a part where the car is in heavy acceleration, so the end result is quite different.
It sounds very agressive now - it's quite distorted, but this is probably what you would hear when driving the cooper in real life.

If you can't decide whether to download, here is a preview - a lap around spa with the new sound (cov preview.mp3)

Attached File  cov preview.mp3   3.36MB   86 downloads

Here's the new sound:

Attached File  cov.wav   843.15K   107 downloads

Grats bingo !
I know this is the right way to reproduce the Maserati V12 and I also know it is most difficult to work with the distorted recording of Jochen Rindt at Spa.
But Your extraction is good and the loop works fine so far.
I would recommend to use the GPL conform sampling rate for further attempts. It is 16bit - 22005 Hz at stereo or mono.
I stick to stereo as long as I edit the files, but at the end they seem to be better in mono.
Meanwhile most GPL user have modern systems and shouldn't have problems with exotic sampling rates, but if there are complete different sampling rates in the soundfolder, the system has to convert them. This is a very performance eating process witch often leads to hard sound problems on many PCs.
We should keep 16 bit 22005 Hz as standard sampling rate for all sounds.
I will post my Maserati V12 in my sound thread for comparison. You will see we are on the same road...

keep on Your good work !

Wolfgang

Previously, the lovely ferrari sound wasn't quite as good as it could have been, but I have now fixed the problem (It wasn't centralised properly  :duh: ).
I also removed the tiny blip in revs every so often, but the one with the blip is still available (as ferblip.wav)

Now you can hear the rorty growl clearer  :D

Here it is in all it's beautiful glory:
