If I remember correctly they get used for some of the graphics switching options as the season progresses.

Much as in the new 69 Extra mod where there are far more car folders (graphics options) than car slots (physics types). The effect of this is that although the physics of say a BT26A is always the same, you can choose three or four different graphics appearances for that car which swaps the car folder which is displayed.

To see these options in 66 mod you need to go to the car selection menu within GPL and use the drop down graphics option to select the car variant you want. GEM does not offer this, since the physics is the same for the slot, all you are changing is the graphics of that car to reflect a change in the car bodywork that was made during the season.

No, there aren't, you are already using the physics for these slots.

There is no different physics associated with these three car graphics slots. They are alternative car graphics for 3 of the 16 physics slots.

Just like in 69 Extra there are something like 45 cars folders, but only 12 or so physics slots. These is because there are different graphics options for the same physics.

In order to change the car graphics you need to go to the car selection page in GPL and select the drop down list. This will allow you to swap the car graphics for certainly the Ferrari 312, and I forget which other car slots as well. All that doing this will do is to swap the visual appearance of the cars and it will swap from using one car graphics folder to another graphics folder. All this does is a visual change though, there is no change to the underlying physics. This is just the same in 69 Extra. A BT26A uses identical physics no matter whether you run using high wings, low wings or no wings in the graphics.

Just to be absolutely clear: THERE IS NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE ANY DIFFERENT PHYSICS ASSOCIATED WITH CAR FOLDERS c16, c17 and c18. THESE FOLDERS ARE GRAPHICS ONLY CHANGES FOR THREE OF THE EXISTING PHYSICS SLOTS TO MAKE THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE OF THE CARS CHANGE AS THEY DID DURING THE REAL 1966 SEASON. IN ALL CASES THE PHYSICS FOR ALL SLOTS IS BASED ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FINAL VERSIONS OF THESE CARS AT THE END OF THE 1966 SEASON.
