Art, things are not as bleak as they appear. Humble as they are, the persons involved have not made any announcements, but in recent years there has been a revolution in the way cars are created for GPL. Thanks to Rory Gibson, Martin Huiskes, Bob Berman, Richard Neville, and Sergio Loro amongst others, who have lead the way in this revolution, a lot of new cars have already made their way into GPL. The first product from this revolution has been the SportsCar mod, but many more closed and open wheeled Mods are coming. The SportsCar Mod was and is an early product of this revolution, and adjustments and improvements are still being made to improve the process. For example, the Porsche 910 was the last car to be created for the SportsCar Mod. If you compare it to the Dino car released when Targa Florio was released, you will notice the improvements made. For the release version of the SportsCar Mod, The Ferrari P4 on which the Dino was based had been overhauled completely by Rory, and new textures were made by Sky. We opted not to redo the other cars as they were in relatively acceptable shape as they were, so we could get on with the newer mods. As a result, both prewar and postwar Grand Prix mods have progressed with leaps and bounds, being intially hampered by Gustavo leaving the GPL scene. Also, CanAm mods share the same story, here the initiator Mark Beckman leaving. A lot of mods left unfinished for many years are now on the move again thanks to this revolution.
To make a long story short, 2012 could be the best GPL year to date, as long as we survive the apocalypse that is.
Tommie.
