I vote for awarding him a line on GPLlinks.org ;)

Don't worry, he's listed at the track database links at least. ;)

Thank you very much for your compliments!

Of course I wanted to publicize my updates soon, but I didn't have the ok of all track authors. So I hope they don't have a problem with it. At this point I want to thank Mark Daniels, creator of the great Hockenheim 67 track, for his permission. He asked me to pass on his greetings to the gpl community.
Many updates are not finished yet, so there is still a lot of work to do. In spite of my lack of time, I try to finish most of them in 2010. Unfortunately I don't know if I have enough time to start new projects.

Kind regards, Thomas Laechele

Thomas who? was my first thought - and some seconds later I bookmarked his site. Discovery of the year.

Great work, Thomas :clap2: Thanks a lot. And I can't await all the stuff that is to follow....

BTW, there are some nice drawings and close-up photographs as well on his homepage. Very talented man.

I tested it all and the tracks are really miracle. Just one strange thing I found on old Hockenheimring. The track is 'placed' to year 1932, however on s/f line are flags with crossed Hakenkreutz. In 1932 it was only flag of the party and had no relation to German Republic, its official flag was same like present until 1933, when Hitler restored the flag of Empire as official and the party's one was official too. This duality ended in 1935, when the Imperial flag was abandoned too and only official flag of Germany was the party flag. I don't see big reason, why the party flag (no matter if crossed or not) should be there. As far as the Hockenheimring's update is only bata now, it can be changed.  :)

Thank you Ivo for your advice. You are right, the Hakenkreuz-flags are not correct for the year 1932. I will replace these scary flags by the black-white-red ones.

You're welcome, Thomas. You can use the black-red-gold one too, as it was official state flag during 1919-1933.  ;)

I hope to see more great projects soon from you and other GPL artist.

But I cannot understand, why all forgot to some Meccas of racing like old Spa or full Le Mans, which need update, even if we have plenty of available sources for them. /offtopic  :idunno:

ivo, i agree on both counts, spa and le mans. they deserve improved graphics. the problem there is that both are rather long and time consuming tasks, and as shown in the new spa request thread, may require a complete rebuild. i theoretically could do parts of the 3d, buildings and trackside objects, but i get seriously annoyed by the 3d tools available for gpl. i tried modifying laguna seca, but couldn't even load the bloody track into any editor without it crashin. i'm a 3dsmax man:(
