John Smith, one of our admins of the GPL Mods Online Racing League www.gplracer.de has created this handy tool. Thx John!
The tool creates wide grids for online racing, to be used on GPL server for safer starts.
It creates 1x1 staggered grids, with 8 meter distance.
Clients do not need wide grids.
The tool only works with "track.inis". The so-called "mod.inis" (e.g. "track65.ini") are NOT supported by the tool.
It automatically creates a backup of the "track.ini" ("Track_Backup.ini") in the track folder.
It is NOT recommended to delete the "Track_Backup.ini" as the tool needs it.
A GPL server reads mod specific "track.inis" (if there are any) before it reads the track.ini.
With the new mod patches and as well with new mods, e.g. the GT mod, mod specific "track.inis" get stored in the track folders, e.g.
"track65.ini"
"track66.ini"
"track67.ini"
"track69.ini"
"trackGT.ini"
Too prevent the server from using these "mod.inis" instead of the modified "track.ini", created with the Online Grid Tool, it is recommended to rename them, e.g. with an underscore before:
"_track65.ini"
"_track66.ini"
"_track67.ini"
"_track69.ini"
"_trackGT.ini"
If the poistion of the "polesitter" is on the left or on the right side can be found in the "track.ini" in the section [starting_grid_0]. You can adjust this with the tool at "Pole position".
It may happen, that the grid gets very narrow on some tracks (e.g. Leipzig) that have a curve at the start/finish line or specific track objects (e.g. walls, bale of straw). Therefore it is always necessary to do a test (offline race, 19 AI and check the first and last car if all is ok), bevor you can use the grid for online racing.
