CARS_Suzuka update

CARS_logo.jpg

The track CARS_Suzuka (Suzuka pre-1982 layout), found in the "N2K3-Track Database\GTP Tracks - Ready to use" thread  (GTP Tracks - Ready to use) by Arturo Pereira is a "fixed" version of the original CARS_Suzuka by Goggles Pisano (which was a modified Suzuka_GTP for MNRL's Classic Auto Racing Series).
This update is an ai refinement of that fix, plus an added ptf file with additional 3do's & mips.

Update:
Lp's that run a little faster.
36 pitstalls with a little more spacing. Starting grids for 36 cars.
Standing start from starting grid boxes (when using the FULL PACE LAP). (Optional track.ini with normal FULL PACE LAP.)
Moved the pit entrance flagger farther up the track.
Added braking markers for the backstretch leading to Turn13 (130R fast lefthander).
Changed some of the mips (bilboards/signs) back to original Suzuka_GTP versions, and made some new ones.
Added trees. (Optional ptf without trees.)
Moved the fence out to the armco ( from T7 to T8, left side ) because the armco had as no physical barrier characteristics. If you contact the armco now, you get resistance.
New logo & track map (trklogo & trkinfo).
A couple of new paint lines (mips) in the trackmat.
PTA & OWR (PTA exe) & GTP track.ini adjusted to run the new lp's.

I just installed the CARS_Suzuka from the "GTP ready tracks" thread and get the "could not load complete track" error.  All files seem to be present.  Will this cure that?

I had to re-install Windows XP in my PC and I will get the carsims installed and ready hopefully tomorrow. I will try that version of the track, but I think it worked here when I tested it.

Copied the track to N2k3, made sure the necessary setup files were present, and it doesn't load there either.

If you're in arcade mode it won't load in gtp because there's no gtp arcade fast setups.

I tried the gtp ready version. It loads for me.

The update in this thread is only a new ptf and the files needed to support the new ptf(s). There is no dat file included with this update.
You need to install the original "CARS_Suzuka" track which has the CARS_Suzuka.dat (or the gtp ready track), and then add this update to that track folder.
It loaded fine, also.

I've never used arcade mode in N2k3 or GTP.  I downloaded the track from the link here, unzipped it in a temp directory, then copied it into the GTP trackD directory.  Selecting it in game gets me the "could not load track - canceling the weekend" messages.

There is no dat file in the directory, is that normal for the "GTP ready" version?  My 'CARS_Suzuka 1962-1982' directory contains 71 items, including four folders, totaling 6.34meg.  (I thought there had to be a dat file present, even if all requisite files were available loose in the directory ...of course my knowledge of track design leaves much - everything - to be desired).

The update ptf version from this thread is as you described, 71 items. The gtp ready version has 35 items, one of which is CARS_Suzuka.DAT.
Install the gtp ready version and then dump this update into the track folder.

A track does not necessarily need a dat file. A dat file is just a packed file containing a ptf file and all the 3do's and mips that were used to populate the ptf. If a track has had alterations, a new ptf is generated which includes those alterations. If you add this new ptf file (and all the new 3do's and mips) to the original track folder, these files will be recognized instead of the old (replaced) files contained in the dat. You could make a new dat, but  etiquette requires the changes to be an addon to the original track, thereby protecting the integrity of the original track. Of course, with the original author's permission, making a new dat or even changing the track name could be done. ( e,g., "CARS_Suzuka" is a chicane-less variation of "suzuka_gtp".)

Thanks.  I think I've ended up with a partial track;  time to remove everything and start over.  Downloaded suzuka_gtp, cars_suzuka, and cars_suzuka 1962-1982;  which combination do I need for the no chicane Suzuka?

I have enough tracks for n2k3/GTP that I normally just delete any that don't work (or seem ..."unfinished"), but it is rare to find Suzuka without the chicane (the only other I've found is a beta for GPL).  I've actually, on other sites, had people argue that Suzuka always had a chicane;  I just point them to the track's website.

FWIW, I've unpacked quite a few dat files over the years, all the way back to ICR2;  though my editing was limited to graphics - "backdating" signs and changing the ubiquitous "Nascar Racing Series" banners (I'll bet a weeks pay they have never appeared at Monza, or Donington, or...);  occasionally merely renaming files so I could have two versions of one track (now I'm doing just the opposite - don't need two Lagunas, two Elkharts, two Road Atlantas, two Doningtons, three Nurburgrings, four Daytonas, or seven Watkins Glens).

Is this a question or a statement?

All this addon does is allow the ai to race on the track "CARS_Suzuka", as well as add some graphic realism.

No attempt was made to add rain or wet surface properties, nor are there any plans to do (at least by me).
