Here comes a fully-functional GEM+-compatible version of the old "EuroF2" carset.

It includes 7 F2 cars (though the BRM is fictional), 1967 F2 AI drivers, menu layouts and season files (F2_67_CH listing the European races, F2_67_NC including several other non-championship meetings).

Note It is possible to race the 1967 F2 championship instead of the standard F1 Papyrus tracks : Snetterton, Silverstone, Nürburgring (not Südschleife though), Hockenheim, Tulln, Jarama, Zandvoort, Monza Junior (instead of Enna), Brands Hatch, Vallelunga.
In this case, you just have to tick the "F2 - Championship" option in GEM+ and you'll be patched.

;)

How to install ?
As always, make sure you have a recent backup of your important GPL data (players folder for instance). No file should be overwritten, though.

1. Extract EuroF2_GEMcompatible.rar into your GPL directory.
2. Create a new gpl/cars/euroF2 folder. Extract euroF2_carset.rar in there (you might be using this carset already, then just make sure you rename it properly ; you'll not need to download it).
3. Launch GEM+. Hit the Carsets button and activate EUROF2. You should now be able to select it from GEM+'s main interface.
4. Exit GEM+. Browse to gpl/players/Your__Name/ and open playF2.ini. Find the line driverRating=3 and change it to 2. This allows you to race Advance Trainers in offline races.

You can now run your fresh install, through GEM+ or via gplf2l.exe.

Hi Nardin

Many thanks for your efforts to put this together it certainly sounds more straight forward than in the past. Will download and test out and report any issues.

Cheers Craig

Already tried this mod. Installation is easy (except creating a new driver, which is always a bit tricky in new GEM+ mods).
Nice one !!
But a Lotus 48 with a topspeed of 300 km/h ? In the Teamfolder these cars are indicated to have 350 to 410 PS, which seems to me too high, because in 1967 they had 1600 ccm-engines.
Do I use the wrong engine files ?

Always found it best to just use the standard gpl.exe, go in and create the new user then exit. Then go in with GEM and set to use the new mod with the new user.

As "advanced trainer" the cars are slower (because Revs are limited to 8.000 Rpm), with a top speed of 260 km/h, which seems quite adequate (compared to the 1965 Grand Prix Cars with 1.500 ccm engines and 200 HP).
But they are a bit trickier to drive than the 1965-mod, because obviously you still have to handle the torque of a 3 litre engine (or is it because of the smaller tyres?).
Nevertheless, thank you for this Mod !!

The technical info given in the team selection menu isn't correct for the F2's, it is still the default Papyrus figures. The same goes for the sounds, I've never used custom F2 sound files, hence none is included in this archive.
And you don't need to create a new player. Just ask GEM+ to use your regular player, a new independant playF2.ini file will be used - no interference with your Formula Ones.

EDIT - and indeed, to race F2's you'll have to select Advanced Trainers in the menus. Sorry for not mentioning that !

 Thank You. Works Fine for me. Just one question, in GEM there is now an option F2 Replay Dir, just a guess but does this store my replays in a seperate directory?  You already said what F2 Championnat is for in your first post otherwise I would have been wondering about that one too. I noticed that there is no read me file included, not a problem if you read this thread but just thinking that some stage in the future someone might come across these files and have no idea what they are or how to install them, especially if they have a memory like mine

Yes indeed, your replays will be stored in replF2 instead of replay. I've written a couple of patches to enable my different mods to use separate replay and setup directories, and I thought this option might be useful for someone else.

You're right for the readme. I'll wait a couple of weeks, just in case things have to be changed in this archive, and then I'll add a readme.

:D

Hi Nardin

Thx a lot for this and it seems all simple enough. but I must have mucked something up.

I have changed my driver rating=2 in playF2.ini and selected 'Advanced Trainer' in GEM, but when I start a championship I get an F1 car (EuroF2 graphics but 67F1 physics). For training and single race I get an F2 car (EuroF2 graphics and 67F2 physics). Can you hint where I might have gone wrong?

Cheers
David

Edit: I just tried with my 67F2 player and the 67 carset and the same thing happens. When I try to run a championship I get an F1 car. Raced a fair bit of F2's before but never tried to do a chamionship. Is there a trick to this?

I've tried this as well and I've looked for information at RSC's. It seems there is no way of actually competing in a proper championship, you'll have to attend every meeting separately and count the points for yourself.

I was a bit disappointed as well when I realized this :(

Thanks, Guilleaume,

for making the Formula 2s GEM-compatible.
Any intentions to release that different setup ad replay-folder patch separately?

Gordon
You don't actually need a patch for a separate setup folder, as the F2 setups are named differentely to their F1 counterparts (for instance F2setup.br2 vs. F1setup.br1). They can therefore share the same folder without interfering with each other.

I've extracted the specific F2 replay folder script, it is attached to this post.
To use it, just copy the XML file into your GPL/Mods/GEM+/gpl67/options, create an empty replF2 folder and fire GEM+. You'll see this option available for every "mod" that uses the original physics, F1/F2/F3. Leave it unchecked unless you're racing F2's.

If you're interested in specific replay/setup folders for the 65/66/69/TC mods, go to this thead at RSC's.
Post #8 gives you the instructions on how to use them. Post #14 links to the actual XML files.

;)
