Hi chaps,

It's release time!

This is the 'All-in-One' update for Mosport (Dry) in GPL. Author: Rudy Dingemans, 2009 (V1.0).
It's a combination of (the best bits in) several earlier Mosport updates, updated and extended by me (Rudy D).
----------------------------------------------

All credits (and thanks) for those earlier updates (afaik, by Kellaaa, Klas, Jason Peters, the GPL Mod Team and possibly others I forgot...) should go to their respective authors - I just built upon their work a bit, in order to make an even more realistic Mosport. Oh, and credits to Papyrus for the original as well, of course.

Disclaimer: I take no credit for the original stuff released for Mosport earlier - only for the bits I added myself (see below for more info). Also, install at your own risk, things may explode upon installation, yadda yadda yadda... It worked over here, anyway. Tested on a 2,5 GHz pc.

- Anyway, TO INSTALL: just backup your original Mosport folder and/or remove the non-Papyrus files in it (except the mod .ini files of course). Then copy the contents of this update into the folder there. You may want to keep your original track.ini files though, so make sure to backup those.
The only thing not included here in this update file is Papy's original Mosport.dat, so you could just add that one to have a working Mosport track folder as well.

- SHORT DESCRIPTION: This update is a combo-update, in that it installs files from earlier Mosport updates by (as I recall it) Klas, Jason Peters Hi-Res Update and Kellaaa's. I combined those best I could, took out the bits that seemed out of place and/or outdated and replaced those with added stuff that would make for a more realistic Mosport.
The basic track layout by Papy is pretty decent, of course, but graphically it's very barren. Going by old film footage and period photographs, I included bits that were there in real life but hadn't been included in any earlier Mosport updates.

The reference point here is the track as it was in 1966/1967, so it would most apply to Can-Am 66 and especially the Grand Prix of 1967. This was a very wet race, of course, but in Grand Prix Legends it's a dry track. This update is for the default GPL track, so that's the main difference with the race of 67: it ain't wet, since it isn't wet in GPL. For a realistic 'wet' experience, you'd have to have 'wet' textures combined with a less-grippy track surface, like the Wet Mosport track that's up there somewhere in the Track Database. But this one is for the default GPL track.

I aimed to have a nice realistic-looking hi-res horizon for a dry Mosport, but if you prefer an overcast sky, I'd recommend Klas's.

Anyway, hope it works for y'all; enjoy!  :D

Regards, Rudy

Nice job Rudy, it looks really good. I tried to install Jason Peter's hi-res update some time ago, but I could only get it to work under D3D. Under OpenGL it CTD'd every time. This update seems to have all the best bits from previous releases, with none of the problems. Thanks!    :clap2:

Hi, Rudy!  :)  Thanks for the update.  I'm anxious to try it out.

I attended the first 'big ticket' event held at Mosport back in 1961 as a spectator.  SSM won handily in a Lotus Monte Carlo.  I drove FVee and FF there between 1974-83.

The 2nd jpeg appears to show a grandstand at the top of the back straight.  Good show!  There was, indeed, a 2nd one there as well as along pit straight.

I expect to be taking in the VARAC Vintage Car Festival scheduled for June 19-20-21.

Thank you for collating this update Rudy and thanks to the original editors for their work, my Mosport is now up to par with Monaco, Monza and Zandvoort :)

A slightly off-topic question if I may - in the original Papy track over the hump on the back straight there is a horizon feature which looks like a white aquaduct (viaduct?), as part of the graphic updates this feature is not seen because it is now "over the horizon". Anyone know what this feature is/was ? Manfred maybe ?

Thanks again,

Longers

I haven't driven it yet, just watched replays.  This is very nice!  The lowered hi rez horizon makes a big difference compared to before.  Vdubs are always cool.  There are new camera angles also. It's a keeper.

Drove it today and got the same thing.  OGL V2 also.  Then tried my JP based version.  No problem.  Hmm.  Since it only seems to be the asphalt, I installed the JP stuff.  No change.  Then fired up FB Adjust and took a look.  The draw distances in the 2 tracks are the same.  Dunno what's next.

Wasn't there always a see-thru problem at Moss?

I think the old sky hid it better...

You are right!  I put the Klas horizon in there and it looks better.  I wonder if it is a draw distance issue.

It WAS a draw distance issue.   ;)   I modified the draw distance in that part of the track using GPLRA to show where to make the changes, and FBAdjust to do it.  I hope you don't mind Rudy.  I modified your mosport.3do, so there shouldn't be any problems.

Just unzip this mosport.3do into your mosport track folder after you backup/rename the original one.
