Hi brr. I just downloaded your 60fps v2 package and have a quick question....does the "gpl_ai_60fps.ini" need to be in the root directory of my gpl install folder(same folder as the gpl.exe file), in order for your fixed 60fps AI to work properly?

Also, do you intend to tweak the program further, to see if you can get decent behavior from the AI when using either the 65s or Formula F2 mods?

The gpl_ai_60fps.ini should be renamed gpl_ai.ini in order it to work. Backup the original gpl_ai.ini first. 60fps AI cannot work with mods since mods make their own changes to AI and these changes are incompatible with 60fps.

      Thanks buddy

So, what do suggest I do to get the most enjoyment out of GPL in this case? Since the AI don't work properly when 60fps and other car mods, should I just use the other car mods and play the game without any AI? Or should I try and learn to drive the original 67 cars against the AI using the 60fps mod? I am *extremely* brand new to the game, and heard the 67 cars are simply too much to handle for a n00b, and that the other car mods are recommended to learn how to cope with the difficult physics.

      Decisions decisions  :idunno:

OK hold on a cottonpickin' minute.....

With GEM+, isn't there a way to drive the 67 cars *WITH* 65 physics, and against the other AI 67 cars with *default* physics? Ditto with the new F2 mod? What if I set it up that way in GEM Brr?

You will effectively drive the '65 mod, but using '67 graphics. The racing experience will be exactly the same as when you use the '65 mod properly.

          Oh :(

Well I tried the 67s today and man they're simply too much of a handful. No doubt I'd have more fun in the 65s or F2s. Only problem is there's no AI to race against in those, if I want to continue using the 60fps mod. It's basically a catch 22. What do you suggest is the best course of action FloP?

You can race against the AI with the 65ers or the F2 no problem .
for what i already have done it seems to work very good with the F2 and AI .

You can use 36 fps just fine unless it causes big problems with your specific monitor (i.e. stuttering due to a mismatch between the refresh rate and GPL fps). Have you actually tried that out yet? It's no secret that 60 fps is the way to go as long as it's not too big a compromise for you, but it seems to be just that.

Another possibility is to race the '67 trainer cars, particularly the Advanced Trainers. To do this, you need to edit your player.ini and change driver_Rating=3 to driver_rating=2 IIRC. This makes you race ATs instead of the Grand Prix beasts in Single Race mode and thus make your first races much less frustrating.

sven....are you talking about *WITH* the 60fps mod engaged, or without? If it's with, then that is very promising :)

Ahh, very interesting. Thanks for the tip. Just out of curiosity, how well do you drive in the original 67s, and how long did it take you to get at that level?

What does 'well' mean, anyway? In terms of laptimes, it took me about a year to get below 1:06.5 at the Glen with the '67 Lotus. I was probably even a keyboarder at that time and didn't improve my PB since then (10/2002). In the last couple of years, I have only raced occasionally and improved mainly in terms of car control and consistency. The fact that I'm using an H-shifter with clutch and what I consider realistic setups certainly slows me down a bit, and I haven't hotlapped in years. But I can finish most Pro Short races with few incidents, if any, as long as the setup isn't completely undriveable and I don't run into some backmarker... As long as you have a goal and some fun with GPL, you are certainly doing things right!
