Here is a patch which reduces ffb latency and removes all (I think) non-physics forces. Those ffb users who prefer to feel only the forces from the physics engine without any damping, centering, or similar forces should find this useful.

READ THE README CAREFULLY AND
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Since there are lots of different wheels, I cannot guarantee that this patch will work flawlessly for everyone. Use a low ffb strength initially, and gradually increase it as necessary. No damping means that strong force spikes go to the wheel unmodified.

Thanks Petteri. I had a trial and it looks not bad at all. I need more time to complete my impressions on that.

    Great editing stuff anyway

Hey, nice. Thanks. I will give it a go, though I got my damping adjusted to where I got the extra effect stuff like hitting the armco, working pretty fun-like. If anyone likes to feel the bumps I use 8 on the damping slider for g25, and set core at 20 in the damping.

The ffb update does allow nonzero damping values in Core.ini, but everyone using such values should be very careful. The way damping works, as far as I understand it, is by adding a small value to the force which is opposite to the rate of change. So if the force is increasing, damping adds a negative term and vice versa. This becomes unstable when there are rapid changes, like hitting the armco. I tracked the ffb values briefly and found that they shoot through the roof (five-figure torque values) when hitting an armco if damping is used. My ffb patch removes other kind of damping, which amplifies the effect. So to be safe, start with quite small values and increase gradually. The damping effects are nice, but they are likely to be oscillations of the damping equations. The damping correction overshoots, and then overshoots back in the other direction etc..

Lets make that four-figure values after actually logging the values to a file

I found that with this patch I feel the armco effects with the damping value at zero.

At Overall force = 100% in the game controllers window and 400 in core.ini for torque, the forces were too low for my G25.  Torque seems to be good around 300, where I used to use about 250.

Which version of GEM+? Double check the folder where you put ffb2.xml, the default path in the README does not work if GEM+ is installed elsewhere.

    From the readme:

    Quote

Put the ffb2.xml file into your GEM+ Options folder (by default at c:\Program Files\GPLSecrets\GEM+\Options) and check the "ffb2" tickbox in GEM+.
If you put the ffb2.xml in the place noted, you'll see a box to check in the bottom right area of GEM.

After several trials and races, my conclusions are that this add-on is really cool. The ffb is more realistic than before. Many thanks Petteri, continue to provide us nice tools like this :)

I tried it but I wasn't sure. It certainly gives a very clear feeling that the fronts have lost grip but it didn't seem to have any transition. I could feel resistance on the wheel, then suddenly non and it was like there was no ffb at all until the grip came back. With old ffb the damping seems to give that feeling of some transition from grip to no grip. Just my opinion. Peteri's new patch certainly felt very immediate I have to say.

Anyone with a Logitech Black Momo tried this patch? What settings did you use? I tried the default but it felt like I was driving on ice, didn't have time to tweak much as I was racing online.

        Keen to experiment more though.

        Thanks Brr
