GPL 60 fps patch version 1 released

As an offline racer it's a bummer about the AI but I can go back to 36fps until a fix appears in the fullness of time.
Great work Brr.. Thanks a million. (and all the testers of course)
Ps. Saiph/Kieth, with my 7600GT I'm using 178.13 drivers with d3d v2 which works really well with 60fps if you want to try it.
all the best

I´ve got a GeForce 7600 GT.
That's interesting Kanzo. I tried the 60FPS patch today, and I can't get it to work satisfactorily at all. Previously, with the OpenGL v2 rasterizer and 175.16 drivers, I could run at 1280x1024 with 32-bit colour, full anisotropic and trilinear filtering, 4x anti-aliasing and all the other nice bells and whistles, and everything was nice and smooth, even at Monaco Rocks. Pribluda usually floated at about 33-36 FPS.
With the 60FPS patch in place, Pribluda tells me that I'm getting better framerates, but all my eyes see is the scenery jerking left and right every time I go around a corner. With Vsync, Prib says I'm getting ~42/43 FPS (obviously this is locked to half my refresh rate, which is 85Hz). Without Vsync, it says I'm getting between 50-60 FPS. But my eyes totally disagree. As I'm going round Curva Grande at Monza, the tree textures seems to be scrolling to the left at about 2 FPS! Very strange.
I've just found the 163.75 drivers by Googling for them (they're so old that I couldn't find them directly on the nVidia website!) and I'll try installing them and see what happens. But if (as I suspect) some of my other games/software breaks, I'll be reverting to 175.16 and turning off the 60FPS patch. I just hope that if I want to try on-line racing in future that I can find an unpatched server and unpatched drivers to drive with.
Yes, at 60fps vsynch will only work with 60Hz

I have a bug to report though:
Using the step by step instructions, i tried to install the patch. Here's what i have done:
- Install GEM+
- copy the patch into that options folder
- start GEM+
- check the checkbox for the patch
- hit the offline racing button on the far right ->> the game starts, but i cannot hit the green button to turn to practice or anything else but MP
so i renamed the exe to gpl.exe, but to no avail. If i start with iGor or VROC i get the 36fps edition (prolly to do with linking with the proper exe - i will have to look into that again)
Now how i got it to run:
- same steps as before, but checked the "patch carset for carsound". and now it works. Wierd though. Also, is there a way to get the old sounds back? the sounds i have now sound pityful. or do the sounds i have now only now really reflect how they should sound in the engine? whatever engine sound pack i ever used it sounded the same. So i might want to convert back to get the old ones?
If you check "patch carset for carsound" you will need to install the required soundfiles for that patch. Originally GPL only used 5 sounds for 7 cars, two where repeated. With carsound patch all cars have seperate sounds but the file names are changed.

60 fps does not look as smooth with higher than 60 Hz refresh rate, but it should look much better than what you describe (that actually resembles what 60 Hz display users see when driving the unpatched GPL).
You say you are getting between 50-60 fps without vsync. Lower than 60 fps suggests a performance problem, so to rule that out, try with less demanding graphics options to get a solid 60 fps.

Now all we need is the Pribulda patch for the new d3d rastys and I will be a happy dude!!!
Couldn't have said it better myself. Its absolutely essential that Prib support get included. Any driver with any kind of technical bent will not be willing to drive a league race or serious race without pribluda. My introduction to 60fps is combined with the first successful installation of the Pattinson Rasters that came out back in May 2008. Its stopped this crashing problem, and the image quality is better, but STILL no prib support almost a year later ... what gives?
PS - Ive driven 60fps for an hour or so now and I won't be looking to created a 2nd rank identity. I'm confident there is no speed advantage to using 60fps other than the improved ability to predict motion that is simply a side benefit of the higher framerate....

EDIT: Took me some time to find a working link for the patch, but now it works perfectly Thanks a lot!

But:
The improvement is limited on LCD with a 60 Hz refresh rate. On my CRT (I use 1600x1200@85fps) I have to limit the refresh rate to 60Hz to stop the stuttering which I have @ 85 Hz. Weird, isnt it? So, I prefer driving 60fps @ 60 Hz because its so much smoother than driving 60fps @85Hz or 36 fps @ 85 Hz (actually the difference between 36 fps @ 85 Hz and 60 fps @ 85 Hz is very little)!
But my eyes get tired quickly due to the flickering @ 60 Hz. Do I really have to "upgrade" to an LCD to get a smooth and non-flickering gaming experience in GPL?
Edit:
Perhaps it is possible to build a compatible 85 fps -Patch...?

GPL seems to do a poor job when fps does not match the refresh rate. That's what motivated the patch in the first place. Maybe some other refresh rates would look a bit better, can you get 80 Hz or 90 Hz at some resolution? These would have 3:4 or 2:3 ratio, which might make the stutter less noticeable. 85 Hz does not go well with 36 fps either.
Quote
It would be nice to have fps selectable by the user, but GPL has been designed so that display fps is linked with the physics rate. Almost every different fps would require new physics rate, in many cases much further away from the original 288 Hz than with the 60 fps patch. Additionally, different fps are not currently compatible online which is another reason why only 60 fps.

Is there anyone out there who could look at getting GPLGlance to work with this fab patch?

Is the GPL Glance author responding to email? The easiest way would be to get the information from him. Other than that, I'm afraid you would have to find the person to fix this among GPL Glance users. If there is anyone who can tell exactly how GPL Glance does its magic (at a very technical level), I could have a quick look at it. But starting from scratch is too much work.

In a way I want to try it, but then, even if I create another player, if I bust off a really good lap and beat a personal best, or worse, get a world record, how will I know if it was the patch pushing me over or just a really, really good lap? Quite the dilemma.

Why don't you just test it, and save replays of any possible accidental WRs? GPL Rank admins will hopefully decide eventually what to do with 60 fps WRs. Submit it when they have decided.
