      Thank you all

One more little update: guard rails!

I spent a lot of time perfecting this one and I feel it works really well.

By the way, I know this is not supposed to turn into a giant pile of tiny updates but I thought I'd just share a last one in this great thread.

      Enjoy!

Couldn't resist! Grand Prix in 720p is just too good a source for texture scouting

Today an update for the pit wall at Spa. Checked against the movie, hope you guys like it :)

ain't you got work to do? :D

nice work, keep 'em coming. the pitlane is the most obvious target for most tracks and can be easily fixed.. but i demand a vegetation update in accordance to grand prix the movie for spa!

Well there's good news and bad news on the vegetation front.
First of all it's rather unsatisfying to work with as GPL never displays a 1:1 copy in game.
Also, I've never gotten srb's to work and most of the trees nearest to the track are in fact srb's.

The good news is that with CS5 it's now easier than ever to refine selections which means we can really get in between the leaves and braches for a well-defined transparancy map.

oh you can get stuff 1:1 into gpl nowadays. but that is limiting the stuff you do to the v2 rasterizers - which is a problem, it will ctd using v1 rasterizers. so you may need to do 2 versions, the 1st one being full 32bit and the second one being a 16bit one with either a 0/1 mask or with a 16 colour mask that can be made of the original 32bit using photoshop. so textures like vlm's le mans are possible! they are just really really big. a 2048x2048 texture will eat 21megs diskspace - but they compress real good to 1.3megs or so..

anyway for 32bit textures you'll need the papybmp version ginetto posted a few days ago
