over the last several months. The current version is ready to be used and will help you to install GPL
on your system. It has been tested thoroughly and will work on systems running Windows 95, 98, ME, W2K, XP,
and Vista.
The GPLPS GPL Installer was built with the idea of simplifying the somewhat complicated process of
installing GPL. We've all read the comments in the forums in our community where a racer is asking "what
downloads do I need?" and "what order do I put them in?". And of course there are some of the common
installation setup problems. Then there are the requests for better-looking graphics for the cars and
the tracks. This program will solve all those problems with a simple, user-friendly interface.
If you use the GPLPS GPL Installer, when you're done you will have a working GPL 1.2.0.2 version with the
Carsound, latest D3D/OpenGL rasterisers, and the Bandwidth patches applied. You'll have the excellent
GPLEA cars, and the most popular, historically accurate track updates from various artists for ten of
the original eleven Papyrus tracks. We have not installed updates for Monaco however, as there are
several update packages available (most notably perhaps is the "Monaco Rocks" update) that have
different performances on various systems. So we've decided to leave the choice of Monaco updates that you
want to use up to you. Your install will be fully functional, and will be ready to happily accept the
installation of GEM+ and the wonderful mods available for GPL if that's something you want to do.
For the record, all permissions have been obtained for the graphical updates included in the program. Thank
you to the modders and others in the community for their tremendous efforts in creating these wonderful
addons that we have for GPL.
The Installer is finished to a point that all essential updates and addons are included but still
there's more to add. There are more enhancements to the installer itself that we will make, along with
enhancements to the updates themselves. But it's not a beta by any means. It's a fully functional, complete
program. And we feel that it's time to make it publicly available, regardless of which features will
be added later.
We have created a web page here where you can read more about it and where you'll find the download link:
https://gplps.org/wb/pages/projects/gpl-installer.php
As we said, the installer has been thoroughly tested, and it is highly unlikely that you'll experience any
problems. If however you do have problems, please ask for help here in this forum:
Grand Prix Legends Preservation Society Forum
One of the goals of the GPLPS is to do whatever we can to support the community of the sim that we all love.
It's our hope that this program will help everyone, whether it's someone discovering GPL for the first
time, someone who's had insurmountable install problems, or simply the experienced GPLer, to get on
the track with a minimum of fuss.
PS: Stefan is working on a little help guide but to be honest, it's more or less downloading the installer, inserting the original CD in your cd-drive, and start the downloaded file and install with the help of the downloaded installer file instead of using the installer from your GPL CD.
But please take the time and download/view the guide.
BETA VERSIONS:
There are beta versions which contain more beautiful stuff because today more and more computers should be able to run higher graphics. Here's a link to the real beta site of the GPLPS with links to the latest betas of this installer and other installers:
