Hi,

I've just upgraded my ancient 8800GTX to a slightly less ancient GTX 460 but it appears to be far worse than the 8800. Is anyone else using this card? If so, I'd love to know what settings you're using.

Please help.

What is your PSU rated at? The GTX 460 required at lot of power to run. If I recall, it needed a decent 450- 500 watt PSU to run the card properly. If you have less than that it’s going to affect the performance. That era of graphics card was when they started getting power hungry.  I remember buying a GTX 560 Ti only to find out I also would need a 500 watt PSU to run it.

If you do need a low power option some of the GTX 750 ti models should be an improvement over what you have and are available used and cheap.

Some models of t he GTX 750 ti and the later 1050 ti both run from the PCI slot without extra power requirements. make sure you get the one that does not need extra power leads.

Also check that card/drivers are running 3D mode for GPL, this can be a bottleneck.  PS will usually shut down if overloaded, though running near limit will slowly cook it;  PS are cheap now, just replaced a dead 550W with a 650 for same price (about $70).

Hi Pete,

yes it's better , but maybe limited at the GPL big mods

I made very good experiences with a GTX 660 with 2GB VRAM, the 460 has just too little 768MB...
Spa67 eats ~1.5GB when loaded - so the rest will be stored in the HDD swapfile - and this is slooow.

IMO the lower limit is 2GB VRAM - I have a GTX 960 with 2GB running without problems 60fps in all mods and tracks.

Just a comparison
