Hi guys!
Does somebody know if it's possible to get the G29 shifter working in GPL without an adapter to connect it through an independent USB port? Those adapters are difficult to get now here in Argentina...
Cheers, Marcos.

Marcos,
You can connect the Logitech G 29 shifter directly to a G 29 steering wheel and avoid the need for an independent USB port. But I suppose you already knew that?
If you are using the G29 Shifter with another steering wheel, I believe you need the USB port connection.

If you use an other wheel, you still can connect the shifter through the G29 wheel (if you have it), using it as an "adapter".
I used to have MSFF wheel and pedals connected, while I was using a G25 wheel (and MSFF pedals). I had put the MSFF wheel on the ground next to the pedals.

Thanks! I've a G27, actually, and use it like you say. But a friend of mine has a G29 and had to buy an adapter because he couldn't get it working without it. Actually I suspected he did something wrong, but you're confirming it to me!
That's great because another friend is buying now a G29 and will be great for him to have everything working just out of the box
Cheers, Marcos

I'm in the process of connecting a G29 shifter alongside my Logitech driving force Pro with

Going onto my upgraded OS laptop, from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Just need to mount & bolt a plate somewhere onto my wheelbase stand? Then start drilling.

I just figured this out for myself last night. In order to use the G29 you must use FairShift.
1. You must run fairshift as Administrator to avoid errors that don't allow the shifter to function
2. You must make sure the enable clutch check mark in unchecked
3. Use the custom button mode and set gears as 1=12 2=13 3=14 4=15 5=16 6=17 R=18 Shift up= -1 Shift down= -1

If a Bodnar dongle is unavailable maybe this way could work with G29 too...

I made the G25 Pedals work with arduino for a friend.

ahhh, OK, I understand now. Is the same that happens to me under Linux. The idea is to use the shifter without fairshift, which is actually unfair for the guys using a shifter and especially if they use clutch and heel and toe, like myself.
Thanks, Marcos.

Their is an alternative to the shifting software programs!
Convert your Logitech shifter to sequential shifting with one of the many inexpensive adapters that are available, and program GPL to use the shifter to replace the paddles. You also need to activate the clutch in the GPL setup.
The result is a working shifter that requires no outside software and the visual of the driver shifting is maintained. The Logitech shifter actually works better as a sequential shifter (shifts are much more positive) and immediately adapts to left or right hand shifting; Four, five, and six gear setups can be a pain in Fair Shift.
A more expensive shifter than the Logitech may work better in 4, 5, and 6 speed gear box designations, but that requires one of the outside / software packages with all their inherent difficulties. I have virtually every mod out there and some Mods worked much better than others in the Fair Shift H pattern modes needed for the G29 Wheel.
I have tried it both ways and settled on the sequential shifting conversion as the best option by far for the G 29 Logitech shifter. I right foot brake and use the clutch for every shift. This set up will also work as a sequential automatic shifter if you so desire.
Hope this helps,
Roger

Hi Roger
Thanks for the idea, but I really use the H. I race in several of the most competitives leagues now and I'm not precisely the fastest, so I wouldn't give more advantage that I'm already give to guys that are "naturally" faster than me.
I'm trying to completely remove Windows from my life and this H-shifter is the single thing by which I still use it.
Cheers and thanks
Marcos.

Marcos,
If I was to join in a online league I can understand why FairShift is a disadvantage. I currently only am doing standard GPL and am already missing the ability to heel toe and have the clutch necessary for shifting. I intend on eventually getting the thrustmaster shifter to solve this issue so I can use GPLshift+

Yes! I completely understand that different people look for different things in GPL

I'm still searching for some solution because I basically have in Linux with my G27 the same problem than the G29 has on windows. GPLshift looks for some list in the Windows controllers indicating which wheel is connected and configure axes and buttons according to that. The G29 isn't known by gplshift and that list doesn't exist on Linux... And the result is the same.
Cheers, Marcos
