Has there been any suggestion of a 1970's-era open wheel mod  or carshape(s) for GPL?  The mid-seventies, especially, had some fantastic  open-wheel cars with the chisel and shovel noses and huge airboxes.  I would think that with all of the distinct mods out there somebody must surely have an interest.

Or is the open wheel interest in GPL strictly confined to the 1960's era?  Enquiring minds want to know.

There was a thread on SRMZ a few months ago which showcased a number of GPL cars which various members of the community have been working on. I remember seeing one of my favourite cars, the black-and-gold JPS Lotus 72 in the collection, and I'm sure there were other 1970's open-wheelers in there too. I just had a quick search but unfortunately I can't seem to find the thread at the moment. Maybe someone else can provide a pointer?

Although there are plenty of car models, that doesn't necessarily mean that there will be a 1970's-era open-wheel mod anytime soon. It's one thing for a modeller to create a GPL version of their favourite car. It's quite another to create a complete set of cars, test them for consistency against each other, and then produce a complete mod. I guess we will just have to wait and see what the modding community releases. :crossfingers: :)

Personally I'd settle for a Lola T332 F5000, or something that passes for it.

The reason I say T332 is that I've got tons of skins of F5000s from Oz/NZ, UK, South Africa  and US and Canada from that era--from 1969 to '77.  I use them with other carshapes but they just don't look quite right on '69 winged cars and  it'd be nice to eventually see them in their full glory.  I'm sure there must be  carskins for various cars of that era on hard drives around the world--didn't Irridux or someone else do a JPS Lotus livery years ago?  Maybe someday we'll get to use all those skins!

Is this the thread your refering to Saiph?

https://srmz.racesimcentral.net/inde...272#entry145051

What about a future mod (similiar to the recent demo mod) with numerous early to mid seventies cars 🤔

Thanks for posting that link twinpotter.  Some pretty neat models in there.  I see Royale has some March 701s and a BRM P153.  Good start for a 1970 F1 season!

There's a section in the forum's 3d Modeling. That's where I found the link. If you go there you can see all the relative subject matter to various modeling projects.

Thanks Argyle. It's Shaun, Luigi, and me :D  We plod along. The first 90% can be achieved quickly. That last 10% to make any of these projects GPL caliber worthy is still a ball buster.

But the problem is the in the details. And with open wheel models (viz CanAm & Protos) you need suspensions. MECH at great sacrifice moved and positioned all the bits and pieces of a base GPL car to properly fit the 55's. I'm not able to do that to my satisfaction with post-70 cars so the bits and pieces are part of the model.
Great, right?
Well, sort of except the wishbones and radius rods don't move. Not a big deal for the 70's & 80's but annoying. Also because of the larger size of the cars there are other 3do details still being worked out (like lowering the BT33.) Look below at the details on Paul's 69mod Lotus 49 and then our Lotus 72, or BT33 (but before serious detail painting.) The irony is I could post the alpha mod -it works- and it would be fun for a week, but it would not be what we've all come to expect from the mod team.

Hi Royale,

Thank you for posting those details. Please don't mistake my enthusiasm for impatience, I certainly don't want anything released until it matches the quality of other Mods.

All I've ever done for GPL is create a single set of car skins, but that took long enough. I have nothing but admiration for everyone who works on full Mods.
