I've always had the driver arms displayed on screen. This evening I turned them off and everything seemed much easier; somehow more immersive.

So, I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about this...

I have them on when I play with a gamepad, but when I use a wheel and pedal set I turn them off.

If I already have a wheel in front of me I don't need another one on screen. :P

OFF! Otherwise it feels like your'e riding in the back seat of a tandem racer! Never understood the appeal of seeing two pairs on arms while driving...

Same (Off) here.. (Although I have to turn them back on for replays otherwise it's just wrong on so many levels).

I recall a major debate about this when GPL first came out (was it the first sim with animated arms?).  "No arms" is my preference, but after all these years and numerous sims it isn't really a factor, my attention is on the track and, when racing, the other cars.  I do like seeing the sim's steering wheel, if animated, since it is usually more appropriate than the one clamped to my desk, and my view is over my wheel anyway.  I am definitely against visible arms when a sim/mod displays disembodied arms when the wheel is turned too far (some GTR2 mods are awful in this respect).

What do you mean by "right" FOV? Just my personal preference or is there a set figure e.g. 78deg I should be using? I have Lee's head movement patch but have left FOV at default. I only use it for glance effect.

Never tried without arms so may give it a go.

Just remind me how to remove the arms please.
Also do you still see the steering wheel moving on screen minus the arms of course?

It's in the graphical settings, just untick 'Drivers arms'. It also removes the steering wheel.

Unless you're driving with 270 degrees or rotation I would always turn it off.
Otherwise it doesn't even match your real steering wheel movement, which is really distracting in my opinion.

Thanks for that. Will give it a go and see how it looks and feels. Never realised most of you did this.

Read the dials? Apart from the tachometer I didn't realise the others did anything. Do they?

All the gauges are functional, though their usefulness is debatable.  You have fuel pressure instead of fuel level, when the pressure drops you are out of fuel, which you will know anyway by the sputtering of the engine.  If oil pressure drops or water temp rises what will you do -  keep driving til the engine seizes?  pit?  pull off the track and quit?

Usually on. I play with game pad or keyboard so I like to see the wheel on screen.
Era appropriate wheels and driver suits/gloves are part of the GPL appeal to me.

That depends of the steer ratio setting on the setup. I use the steering wheel on (becouse A= it´s a nice piece of artwork B=my monitor is no directly in front of the wheel and C=becouse i found lovely the gear change animation) with 360 - 380 degrees rotation, 1:15 or lower ratio.
