Yesterday I was cleaning out my old computer desk when I came across a copy of F1 2000 and F1 2001 buried within the depths of the desk. I had been looking for these for some time and was hoping they would still work as these games were newer than some Papy games I can run on my pc without any patches. Unfortunately, F1 2001 did not. I launched the autorun, ran the configuration program, and when I launched the game all I was met with was a minute of my cursor loading. Nothing ever actually popped up other than the admin approval window. I then tried running it in a Windows XP, and Windows 98 compatibility mode, yet that didn't change anything either. I don't think compatibility modes have ever actually helped me when I needed them. With no online patches for more modern OSs, I am pretty much out of luck. Does anyone have any idea how to get this game running on Windows 8? I know 8 is outdated, and I am getting a new pc soo but I often procrastinate on switching operating systems.

Well, I have F1 2001, F1 2002 & F1 challenge running in Windows 7 with "Windows98 compatibility mode" and "run as administrator" option. I'm using NoCd's though. [Unless something goes wrong I'm switching to Linux till the end of the year :)]

I don't know about Windows 8, maybe some older versions of directX aren't included in the OS? I think all  this games use Dx8.
Or maybe it's the DRM that makes problems?

You may try dgVoodo emulator - it is made for older games that use DirectX versions older than Dx9.
P.S. Unlike other EA F1 games F1 2000 gives me troubles even with dgVoodoo. Looks like it just isn't compatible with modern versions of Windows.

I have a copy of F1 2000 (EA) but I could not get it to run on Windows 7.

I have run the EA titles 2000-Challenge on different systems and they have worked fine. All except 2000. I could never get the latter running in direct 3d mode only software mode.

There are patches for F1 2001 just Google F1 2001 patch and try those.

You can also go with nocd cracks, but I'm not supposed to say that so strike that from the record. Oops 🤭😬

Other than that on some of my systems the exe (especially install one) was blocked by my OS system. So I had to right click and unblock.
You could look at your antivirus too. Maybe a block there?

Also in the config graphics exe set up, try altering settings there. Just start the exe and you'll see a drop down box listing different graphic options.

Ideas to maybe help you out 🤔

For many older games you may need to install the DX9 redistributable;  this will not interfere with or replace any later DX you have.   While all newer DX versions are fully backwards compatible (they contain everything from older versions), many programs are not "forward compatible";  the way it was explained to me, some older programs seek their DX functions via path and function name, so windows responds "file not found" to their DX requests, newer programs just request the function.  

Also, while a game may run well in Vista or later, many installers will not work.  A search for your particular game may find a workaround (with some games you can just copy all files to the hard drive and it works).
