Only one clue.

Stay safe out there.

I love lock-down if it produces things like this. How exciting...

Lock-down also meant that I had time to rebuild my GPL PC after a ten year break.

:)

Dang!........I should have provided a less obvious clue?

Yes, correct.   Well done that man!

The new road racing track planned for an October 2021 inaugural set of races on the Isle of Wight.

Named the Diamond Races.

Not raced before but has been planned for many years. Who knows, we might get to race on it before the real solo riders!

More information and on bike speed limit restricted lap here.

Actually it wasn't the clue that got me there. I just thought that "here's the guy that made the entire Isle of Man track for GPL, what tracks could he be interested in creating when he is bored?" :)

Fantastic bloody news mate...

Let's have the Beta to test then.

Lol.

I can't wait for this. Used to go to the Isle of Wight for holidays as a Kid.

Been back there a few years ago.. not much changes. It was like the 50s, but its moved on a lot. Its like the 70s there now!

Paul.

Excellent news Jim  Seems bloody tight in places. How do the road widths compare with IOM?
I might pop over and have a go on my pedal bike.

I usually haven't released public Beta's as I always wanted to re draw much of my work as I go, and only wanted the finished, fully developed product to be seen.

After the IOM though, I feel a little more relaxed about my methods being "sustainable" and the prospect of showing unfinished work, so I may well decide to release a public Beta or two for anyone interested.

That would probably only be after the roads are fully worked up and the roadside foliage is in a mature state, but with only "placeholder  buildings" i.e. without the final build houses and complex objects, which take the most time for me to construct.

At least that way you might have something to try in 6 - 9 months or so, but don't hold me to it.

Too long to wait?, :whistling: Why not  try a race against the AI in the '67's in the fog and mist at the IOM? That should keep the juices flowing!

I make my RR tracks slightly wider than reality to make driving views on monitors more realistic, given the lack of realistic peripheral vision. It doesn't matter if you have a simple monitor, or triple screens or other tools, you still haven't got 3D vision as you do on a real track so you need some slight compensation on narrow tracks.

The IOM MC for GPL was made at 7.4 meters width, whereas the real roads there vary between about 6 to 7 meters.

For the "Diamond Races" track, my estimates are Military Road is about 6.7 meters wide and the rest approximately 5.2 meters.

I plan to make the Military Road [ Coast road ] the same 7.4 metres and the rest 6 metres wide.

That IoW course looks very interesting Jim, I hope it makes it to fruition. I'd be glad to help out with any beta testing. But only 6m wide?  I might have to re-take a driving test before committing too much to that!

I wonder why bike event organisers seem to be a bit obsessed with islands? I suppose it might be related to the fact that it's simpler to control the road network on an island. Just think, at some point in the future we could have the Isle of Sheppey TT! And the Isle of Dogs TT! (Nice and convenient for London-based fans.) I hope they don't get too carried away though, and try to set up an event on Rockall. That could be a bit boring.  ;) :D

its because it was and its still illegal to organise races on public road in england  , in england but not in ireland  or the other  islands of the uk, it took a special exception of the government recently to organise the Eprix in London  or the F3000 races  in Birmingham   30 years ago

Lock down?  Covid has made it fashionable to be an introvert and homebody.

Thanks Jim!! I've always enjoyed your tracks, and in our League (oAo), every season we always include Adelaide or Dundrop (in my opinion on the podium of the GPL track)

That was true in England.  New special legislation was needed to close public roads for a race.  It took Birmingham many years to get this through parliament for the F3000 SuperPrix.  Hence all English race tracks were on private land, not public roads.  Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands (Bouley Bay etc. hillclimbs) etc. have their own laws and legislation.

However in 2017 a new law was passed to make it easier for local government authorities in England to suspend the "Road Traffic Act" and permit motor racing on public roads.  Some talk of a race in Coventry city centre being the first.

btw not sure about the London Eprix.  This was held in Battersea Park and was to be held next in the grounds of the Excel exhibition centre.  I wouldn't think that these would be classed as public roads, but I may be wrong.  (Battersea Park would be no different to the public park at Crystal Palace which was still holding speed events up until a couple of years ago).
