im talking of GPL here, im sure that the serious car makers who did all those new mods dont use GPLeditor or 1-2-3do or any old noonan tool , they use something much more efficient , and its an omerta ,no way to know i would be more then happy even if it cost money to get the right tool as long as its work on the gpl 3do car file , thats one of the reason why i left GPL 12 years ago or so , the fact that theres was no good tool for car making , and no sharing of info then frome the Gplea and co peoples

Kartm, Its been a few years ago that I was working on the 55 mod for GPL but I did the models in 3D Max ver7. The problem was that the models wouldn't work in game because there was all sorts of clipping and other issues. If you don't know what clipping is, it is when the faces of the model closest to you became invisible and you could see through the model to the side that is away from your view (as if the normals were reversed. You had to put clipping planes in to slice up your model (like a loaf of sliced bread) I could never overcome that issue and no one seemed to be able to help out. I did manage to get the Mercedes, Maserati and the Gordini in game and sort of working but it wasn't pretty...
I can't speak to what they are doing now but back then it was just too slow of a process for me to continue.
The Gordini was the best of the 3 cars as far as clipping and just recently found this image when I was looking for Gordini pictures on my old Windows machine.
Blast from the past.

If there were a better way of editing in GPL I would have an interest in coming back to help. I just got frustrated with such little progress to keep going.

so what you say is that there no such thing as a good 3d editor for gpl , and all those cars in all the mods are done only with gpl trackeditor and one-two-3do ,very hard to believe

The GPL's cars can be made by any 3d program (3ds, blender, etc ...) then they are divided into slices and then assembled ... and here the biggest problems arise ...that lead us to resignation ...

thats the missing link ,that would be very useful to explain in detail for the benefit of GPL and to train new modeller , about those 3ds , blender program and the process of conversion to gpl file

For the second attempt with the 55mod, the 66 & 71 CanAm, MECH's Alpine A110, the Porsche 910 and Alfa 33T3 we used 3dmax. For future mods the way to go for GPL imho is still 3dsMax. All these models have to be low poly or they will not work in GPL. We developed ways to avoid clipping, automate the ase to 3do conversion process, and rebuild the 3do structure to account for different model types. We still use GPL editor. My one wish is for an editor with a graphics interface to replace the GPL editor.

I know there are friends like you on the team that I can count on ...
now I'm grappling with my new project, but I'm happy to know that that door is always open for me ...

I've a novelty item which may be of interest to model makers. It's a way to see your projects spring forth or third, in true 3D.
You'd need a pair of coloured filters, in opposite colours for this. And a program to combine two images in those colours. The result is an image which looks 3 dimensional, and is called an Anaglyph.
Left and right photo's occupy the same space, and the filters (glasses) you wear, each show you one only, of the 2 opposite colours. So, you'd grab two slightly different images of your model, combine them, and create an image with visual depth.

Examples below - Red and Cyan(blue) colour filters A bmp gives best results.

3D 68 Brab 3-1.bmp 3.71MB 61 downloads 3D NURB 2-1a.bmp 3.56MB 55 downloads

There are programmes which allow video to be interlaced into anaglyphs : https://vimeo.com/10160223

I use blender to model in 3D... although I never tried to port my stuff in GPL.
