It is difficult to find an ideal aerial shot. The best shot i found was this one:

The one course which needs a massive improvement is Watkins Glen. The 2nd half of the lap is pretty much fictional compared to the real layout.

The only major problem with Papy's Glen track is that it's too wide.  Maybe a bit too smooth, also.  The pit straight is fine enough, but the rest of the real circuit narrowed considerably before widening again at the final turn before the pit straight.

As for the final set of sweeping turns on the second half of the lap, that's how they were before that part of the circuit was reprofiled into the 90'ish degree turns and the new pit straight that are now present.  The original sweepers that we have in GPL don't exist anymore.

Pablo , Ba11 no existe mais, creo que ultima vez em 1968 , no tenho certeza, Ba11 era mas longo que Ba12.
https://www.the-fastl...racingcircuits/

Em 1972 se meteu la chicane Ascari , todavia ,creo que la version 68 es mas de acuerdo com GPL :)

I think the new version of Watkins Glen is going to be called "glen67." That's what the new track directory is going to be called.

Well, from the very good material we were able to put our hands on, I would say not really. ;)

At least it wouldn't be as monotonous as Avus.

I recall someone from Sierra on CompuServe (that long ago) stating several GPL tracks were wider than real life "for gameplay reasons".

Well... for what it's worth, I've been a fan and follower of GPL since it was first released. I don't race online or such, but my love is hot lapping, racing the AI, enjoying and adding the awesome updates to my installs as they are released (of which there are now 15 separate installs with a disk size of 80 gb ) .. I am a stickler for historically accurate updates for all of my seasons and genres for cars, tracks and programs. Through the years I've tried to make contributions that my limited skills permitted, ... usually track programs, gem photos and occasional sky edits . .... I sort of believe the original 1967 season of championship and non championship tracks should be completed.. As noted before we now have the beautiful spa67, monza67, oulton67 , brands67 , monacane and really beautiful multiseason updates for Mexico, Zandvoort, etc .. So I wish for a penultimate... Watkins Glen ...LeMans Bugatti or Mosport ...

But to the entire community, I thank you for years of pleasure and challenging enjoyment...

What a track!!!
Until twenty years ago the public roads were untouched, even though going through them would have been very dangerous because it meant going against the traffic on a highway!
Today those roads are widened and some level crossings have disappeared, but the surrounding landscape is practically the same, the trees have grown and there are more houses.
Attached File  LaNoria.jpg   104.61K   36 downloads This bridge, for example, still exists.

That looks much better!

By the way, the left hander after the back straight is not a smooth curve - the kerbstones are placed very roughly on the left. Are you able to replicate that as we see here from 3:18?

Michkov also helped to trace the original layout here: https://www.the-fastl...=307071#p307071

Thanks for posting those comparative overhead shots.  This is what I was referring to when mentioning the old sweepers on the second half of the lap that are no longer there.
