One day, in those pages, I seen a screenshot of a pre-version and there seemed to be a cursor to go to 24 cars (if I remember correctly).

Unfortunately I can't find where this image was posted.

I guess it's part of the things that were planned and disappeared before the game was released in 1998.

It was, I guess, intended to simulate the 1967 Ring where there were 26 cars on the grid.

:hat-tip:
I have read the same info on a topic here.There was this cursor with a greater number of cars planned before the final product release
how much I wld like to have Nurby GP complete grids ! And the thing now that make the 20 cars limit even more frustrating  is that we have now all the cars. :duh:

But that's even harder for the WSC  Mod and the two Can Am Mods with always more than twenty competitors on the starting grid.

Well, well, finally I found the image on my hard drive.

It was in fact 32 cars and not 24.

In addition we see the weather implemented with options for each sessions of a race.

We could also see that there was even an option for the player to choose his place on the starting grid without having to do the practice. Not realistic but it's still an additional choice which is not negligible. It was also possible to make short training sessions but especially by choosing the duration for each one independently.

By the way, on the page linked below, I discovered "Grand Prix Legends Track Editor Project", a project that never saw the light of day : a tool that was probably supposed to allow the creation of a track from A to Z.

That's right. 17 F1 + 9 F2 cars.
We have 2 F2 cars for the German Grand Prix in the 1967 F1 Historical Mod V2 (Oliver in Lotus 48 and Ickx in Matra MS5).

The remaining F2 cars that are not modeled are:
#20 Gerhard Mitter (Private entrant, Brabham-Cosworth BT23)
#22 Alan Rees (Roy Winkelmann Racing, Brabham-Cosworth BT23)
#23 Jo Schlesser (Ford France SA, Matra-Cosworth MS5)
#25 Brian Hart (Ron Harris Racing Division, Protos-Cosworth 16)
#26 Kurt Ahrens (Ron Harris Racing Division, Protos-Cosworth 16)
#27 David Hobbs (Lola Racing, Lola-BMW T100)
#28 Brian Redman (David Bridges, Lola-Cosworth T100; failed to take the start)

And I also wish for an updated Weather Patch that includes rain, fog, and everything.

Ah, so many memories.  Early summer '98 the proposed release date was spring/summer '99, then in late July Sierra ordered release "in time for Christmas";  everything not already working was scrapped, though bits and pieces of coding still remain for some of these features (or so I'm told by folks who can recognize such things).

Weather would have been implemented much like in the NASCAR sims but with a few more options;  you could select ambient temperature (within a range appropriate to that track), wind speed and direction (within same limits), and clear/overcast/light rain/heavy rain.  Your mention of grid options reminds me of discussions about a "historic season" option - each race would have the correct weather and the grid would be preset to the real grid for that race, you would qualify and be placed appropriately on that grid, displacing drivers behind you one space.  A career ladder was also being worked on;  you would start in F3, finish in the top six for the season to progress to F2, finish in the top six in a season there to progress to F1.  The F2/F3 cars were left "as is" as the trainers, all else was abandoned though there was talk of continuing work and releasing a major patch/update about a year later (obviously this never came to pass;  don't know why, my involvement ended in Sept. '98).

...

There was an extensive thread about this on RSC, mostly over the heads of the majority of us;  an ambitious project which I doubt even reached beta stage.  But it would have been similar to the "sandbox" for N2k3, a full 3D WYSIWYG windows track creator.  I wonder if the fact that GPL never achieved the wide spread popularity of other sims was a factor in the developers losing interest.  OTOH, existence of such a program could have meant we would now have quantity over quality in our selection of tracks

In my case instead of seeing totally new things. I'd rather see reworking of the tracks we already have like Kyalami, Silverstone, and others. Seeing that Monza 1967 has come out, there's a future for well-made historical tracks (Not only from the graphic, but also in the curves and important details).

That is something for which I've lobbied for ages.  Not just default tracks but we have many nice tracks created 15-20 years ago that could benefit from a graphics update;  though this is controversial since some believe this should only be done with approval from the original track creator (and many of these people are no longer involved or are no longer with us).

The new Head Movement Manager v3.0 patch position feature works with all mods.

Nice lists Thomas. :thumbup:
Even with a bigger team dedicated to editing, it is still a wishlist for the next 20 Christmas to come. :D

- Longford (Tasman track) is still in the making. And also the Tasman mod itself is still being worked on.
- Südschleife will also be worked on again.

There are no Tasman mods in the works at the moment as they are pretty much all done from 65-69 with 64 at about 50% completion. Tasman 68 has been ready to be released (including online skins) for nearly a year now. I would have preferred to release it before 68 F1. However the Tasman mods will not be released until we have at least 6 of the 8 Tasman tracks available to the community in GPL and my decision on that will not change. I write this in the hope that maybe a track builder would be interested in continuing the work on one or two of the 4 missing tracks.

The ability to Choose buttons for individual gears on the Controls page of GPL. That way any H-Shifter should work in LInux.

This makes sense, because all mods have their own tracks. Hopefully at some point more tracks will come out of the Tasman that look very interesting (they are short but look very entertaining, Longford I think would be the most complicated track to finish).
I tried to get into this track creator world but I always fail to understand the programs or editors.

Tracks which I think could really benefit from a 'redo'

- Nordschliefe
- Kyalami
- Monaco
- Watkins Glen
- Syracuse

Not a slam to any of those tracks, but to me they are the 67 tracks in most need of a refresh. I think Brands is actually quite nice, especially with Lachele's update

From a purely visual aspect I would suggest that of the 65-69 Grand Prix tracks, East London and, particularly, Le Mans Bugatti now look the most dated.
I have only admiration and gratitude for the original track builders, but Spa 67, Goodwood 65 and Monza 67 have raised the bar so very much...

For a great historical experience in the 60's Grand Prix (we are in Grand Prix Legends !) and following the wonderful examples of Spa 67, Monza 67 and Goodwood 65, I would suggest my Christmas list :
- A new version / update of Rouen-Les-Essarts ;
- A new version / update of Le Mans Bugatti ;
- A new version / update of Monaco ;
- A new version / update of Nordschleife with an accurate layout ;
- Sudschleife track.

Concerning the cars & Mods, I'm already satisfied by the choice, the details and quality of graphics, specially with '67 and '68 MODS.

I agree! A very nice seleccction of tracks requiring (graphic) improvements, even though I do not like Monaco and Syracuse as racing track.

Rouen-Les-Essart (updated) and Südschleife would be great! Even with improvements I will not like the Bugatti course..... Monaco the same. Even though I do not like very long courses like the Nordschleife, a graphic improvement (high resolution textures and backgrounds) comparable to e.g. the outstanding rendition of the Targa Florio track would be great.

By the way there exists a quite good but more or less unknown update for the Nordschleife by Gammaworx somwhere in the srmz forums - much more life, atmosphere and immersion by additional spectators, advertisements, billboards, umbrellas and so on. Have a look at it:

https://www.youtube....h?v=aSKKEfbPp0w

Even though the quality of the low resolution movie is poor (in the sim the track with the update looks much better) you get a certain idea of the update. Especially the uphill part prior the caroussel is very well done and much better than the vanilla version and any other update available.
