As the title says, AC Ultimate Edition is on sale on Steam at the moment, for £14.06 in the UK. According to the description, it includes all of the official DLC packs produced for AC, totalling 178 different cars. I've had a look through the list and ones which catch my eye are: Porsche 917K, Porsche 908LH, Lotus 72 (black & gold livery), Lotus 25, Porsche 917/30 Can-Am, several LMP cars.

Does anyone have any strong opinions about AC, either pro or anti? Does it have any problems? I know there has been some discussion about the AC Lotus 49 on this forum - it's not my intention to pour petrol on that debate! ;) :D  I see there are quite a few other third-party mods available for the game too.

I hadn't really considered buying any of the modern racing sims (AC, Project Cars 2, Rfactor 2 etc) as I have my hands full with all the GPL mods. But only £14 seems really good value, and it has a number of cars I'd like to drive.

For that price you can`t do anything wrong.

I like Assetto Corsa (AC). Not GPL but fun. ;)
Good physics and nice graphics, a huge community with hundred of addon tracks, many good mods, ... good online code for nice online racing, ...

I guess you are more into historic/ vintage racing. Then have a look here:

Assetto Corsa Content Manager
https://assettocorsa...nt-manager.html
-> it is like GEM+ for GPL but has much more options than GEM+
-> the full version (costs some EURO) is demanded for some new mods and tracks. I highly recommend to buy it as you can easily make many settings that you can not even set in AC itself. A great program.

In the realm of modern sims, I think Assetto Cors is my favourite right now.
I think that has the best overall package in terms of content, graphics, physics and general enjoyment.

I've recently joined a 'GPL League' there and I think it should be pretty fun. I joined in the midst of summer break so I cannot say too mucj yet :D

The game as great immersion with good physics and graphics.

I don't play online so the only issue for me was a poor career mode against the AI.

In my opinion Assetto Corsa is a good allround simracer. Force feedback is a bit lacking compared to Automobilista and rFactor 2 but it well makes up for that with the huge amount of content and the very large playerbase.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've just bought it, installed it and I've taken the Lotus 49 for a spin around Silverstone. It sounds awesome!

And thanks for all the pics and links Stefan. I'm definitely going to be investigating all those. There seems to be a great selection of add-ons.

I hope we can change the light, that's doesn't look real, as if the races always  happened at sundown.

shadows rendering of the cars are very neat and with a lot contrast, that doesn't look natural, too

But 14 GBP, it can't be a hard decision for the pocket, saiph !

You are right Erik, the default Assetto Corsa (AC) Force Feedback is a bit lacking, but there is an option to optimize it with the AC Content Manager program. Kinda like the FFB patches we have for GPL. By activating AC feels much better.

Automobilista has great default FFB and I think the sim is much underrated.
Lately I had some nice online pickup races with some brasilian guys.
Automobilista 2 (scheduled for release in December 2019) looks also promising: https://www.bsimraci...lopment-update/

Greetings, Marcel

Great Marcel, anticipating on the GPL afterlife?

Wanted to do the same but I can't because I already have it (AC says) but I don't (when I try the Ferrari 312)  :really:
Only choice now is to purchase the single updates :)

Trying AC last night I felt tired and powerless knowing to learn all the menu's and setup things.
Felt like a soldier who could sleep in a V.I.P. tent when I started GPL again :woot:

Lots of great cars and tracks, but I still find the physics pretty lacking.

On summer sale again!!! Check out the Stefan's post! Tons of excellent content.

@JCarvalho: play around with FFB settings, and especially get Content Manager which unlocks a few more tweaks for FFB. AC is not "out-of-the-box" but a few tweaks with your wheel settings make a huge difference. Depending on the wheel you have, you find a lot info all over the net. It's a bit like GPL, you need to spend some time in finding your preferred settings but once everything is dialed in it's badass!!!

I am into PC2 (which I have won in a competiton from Motorsport Magazine :-) )and AC along with GPL and find that AC has much better physics and car feedback then PC2. The 67 mod is mind blowing, btw. That alone justifies the spend in my view, especially now (10€ for the ultimate edition!!!)

Does anybody make a Championship for the 67 F1 cars yet?

I'm not a fan of single races. Which is why I love GPL so much.

The same comments I recall from the Nogrip forums.  Along with praise for the graphics and mods.  (FWIW, one of the prime developers of the P&G mod moved on to AC.)

But Steam is a dealbreaker for me.

I agree about the lighting. The tracks always look too dark for me to see well. PC was that way too. It's another reason to like GPL. Now that I think about it. It was the dark tracks that made me give up on other sims.

No matter how hard other sims try they can't replace GPL for me. At my age I can honestly say i'll be racing GPL the rest of my life. It still puts a smile on my face and smiling is good.

About the lighting, you should try the SOL mod, in conjunction with the Custom Shaders Patch made by Ilja Yusupov. The CSP fixes and adds a lot of stuff into AC, including 24h cycle and, with the next release, rain (hopefully). It becomes a completely different game, and the list of changes is far too long to be put on text. Just try it, it's free. You will need the Content Manager made by Ilja too, but also that is free in the basic version (pro can be unlocked with any donation, even just 1$)

https://acstuff.ru/patch/
https://www.racedepa...oads/sol.24914/

HOWEVER, if you expect AC to replace GPL, forget it. It's like fish and meat: protein based, but completely different products. You pick the one you like to eat more often, given that nothing stops you from eating the other one too from time to time, when you feel like it.
