2nd Sicilian Summer Special - oAo - 08/06/19

With the oAo currently in its summer break it is time again for our annual fun event around Targa. Everyone is welcome to join us for 2 laps around the Piccolo Madoine circuit.

Mod: 1967 Sportscars (GPLSC)
Track: Piccolo Madonie (Targa)
Distance: 2 laps
When: 14:30 UTC 8 June 2019*
Where: oAo - Igor

How does this work in detail?

We will take the new Sportscar mod on to the oAo server (currently running Targa if you want to get some practice in), for a 2h practice session. Once everyone is in the cars get launched individually with a gap of a minute. Drivers have to complete two laps to be classified with the best laptime determining the results. We are running Intermediate damages, so Shift-R is allowed but carries a 30s penalty for each use.

That's about it. I'll be in the thread should there be further questions. Maybe just let me know if you are interested so I can gauge how big the grid will be.

*Link should convert UTC to your timezone

Yes, I'm keen to take part in this. Can you clarify how the 30 second thing works - do we need to pit for 30 seconds per reset?

No I'm adding them to the laptimes post race. I found that shif-rs are easy to spot by discontinuities in water and oil temps in the replay.

Or you could just view the "Mechanical" tab of GPLRA. That also shows all ::crap::-r along with the person who used it.

    Hmmm...

Michi...  Are you sure that you can read that kind of data from a 'practice only' mode?

John...  As far as I know, shift-R's aren't registered in practice mode.  Race only.

I've done it before. As long as a laptime is posted I can open the lap in GPLRA and look at the data. Given that the timing line is in front of the pit stalls there is no benefit to reset the car in the three corners between them I can find.

Ah, you are right Doni, I had forgotten the "race" was being run under practice conditions. :(

    Drivers Briefing:

Race control (that would be me) is on the default GPL chat. Regular oAo rules apply once the event is underway, so no chatter on there once the first driver leaves the pits.

I'll release the cars with 30 to 60s gap depending on the size of the field. Keep an eye on the chat for your name, the first time I call out your name its to inform that you are up next. This should look something like:

    Driver A GO
    Driver B ready

At which Driver A is free to leave the pits and Driver B gets ready to leave on the next notice, best get yourself situated in the car and wait for my next call.

With the cars leaving at an interval it should be obvious that the car right behind you has already got a lead on you, so keep that in mind. I know that it's hard to see out of these cars and the amount of corners makes it hard to pass so patience is required from all parties when it comes to overtaking.

Once you are done with your two laps pull the car over someplace safe, there is an off ramp a couple of turns past the S/F line as I recall, and exit the car. You can watch the others or leave the server at that point.

That's all, see you in two hours.

PS: We are in the oAo chat on igor prerace
