According to their website (posted on 27-12-2018) the french league is closing its doors.
"The site will remain accessible for another ten days and will then be definitively closed."

Dear pilots,

As the title indicates, the F1Legends adventure is coming to an end.

Eighteen years have passed since the creation of this championship in 2001 by our late friend Jops.
Several generations of drivers have competed on the Legends Grand Prix tracks, always in a good mood and with fair play. Few communities have such exceptional longevity.

But, as they say, all good things come to an end. We have to face the facts.
GPL is 20 years old and he looks his age. Internationally, there are only a handful of people left to keep him alive. And it is getting smaller and smaller.
As for F1Legends, there are no more new drivers and the list of participants is shrinking.
The prequalification server is empty most of the time and the forum activity is almost nil.

For my part, the passion for GPL is no longer what it used to be. I haven't been driving for a long time and I'm no longer interested in "modding", I think I've done a lot of work on it.

So it's time to stop beautifully and leave... like a prince!

It is with a little heartfelt thanks to all the drivers who participated in this long epic, to all the volunteer journalists whose pen wrote the history of this championship and to all the kind donors who allowed me to keep F1Legends afloat!
Thanks to Molfis who has been with me for many years.

And of course, a big thought for Jops....

Well, it's time to say goodbye.
The site will remain accessible for another ten days and will then be definitively closed.

I wish you all the best for the future!

===================================================

That is sad news. :(

I have never raced with them but the grids seemed to be full in 2018 according to https://www.freeleo.h...&champ=F1LEG-18
Maybe new admins to support F1Legends would help? Just an idea.

@Jackseller:

- What will happen with all the updates that are hosted on your domain (tracks, cars)?
Especially with the track updates?
https://www.f1legend...date/update.php

This track for example is only available at F1Legends: Mosport Rain 1967 https://gpltd.bcsims.com/?sbtd=mosprain
I don`t know if the GPLTD also points to F1Legends for other tracks or updates.
I will need to upate the links on the GPLTD when F1Legends is gone.

Jackseller can we backup/ store all the files here at SRMZ?

- What will happen with the GPL alternative forum that was of great help when SRMZ and GPL Repository were down?
https://gplaltern.f1...forum/index.php

Well... :(...

As we say in French , the king is dead, long live to the king !

JackSeller was like a pope for me... What a sad news... But as he wrote it, GPL is 20 years old and he looks his age... :rip:...

SRMZ reminds me of this little French village which never surrender in front of the Roman Empire... :smug2:

Yes... These are really sad news

"I have never raced with them but the grids seemed to be full in 2018 according to https://www.freeleo.h...&champ=F1LEG-18
Maybe new admins to support F1Legends would help? Just an idea."

I thought the same. I know Jackseller did a lot of work to keep working the league, which was also the most "sophisticated" in terms of webpage and softwares to collect the times and in organization in general.  I guess is difficult to continue with the league if Jackseller is not going to continue in it... But I'm pretty sure that many (or most) drivers still want to race in a French-speaking league.  There were 30 drivers in the last race and I hope the close of this league not to imply some or many of them to left GPL.

I think is just matter of reorganizing the league in a simpler way with a new admin... but well, I understand that is only possible if is there somebody willing to be the new admin.

I'm in other continent and don't even speak French, but have experience as (informal) admin of Mybroga since several years. If somebody want to continue a French league and think I could help in something, just send me a PM.

Salut, Marcos.

LBGPL (Belgian league) had already shared drivers with F1Legends, I suppose Jieffe (LBGPL admin) would be happy to see some more "guests" from France. :)

Good post Stefan, it's important F1Legends/Jacksellers legacy will be available, even when it would shut down...

I've done some races last season at F1Legends. As most know, it's a francophone league. I had great races and fun over there, great bunch of people, and a lot of good drivers. AFAIK the biggest reason is Jackseller lost his passion a bit for GPL. There were still 2 grids most of the time, and personally I had some good challenges with the likes of Tom Guérout (-88).

I was planning to join them full time next year, but it looks like it won't happen :(

Great! I hope many French drivers continue racing in the Belgian league (and/or other ones).

I was thinking also in the replays... they raced in tracks as Opatija, Urbanya and many times in Jops Siffert track and several world records were obtained in their qualys.

I think we should download the ::crap:: out of F1Legends and archive it somewhere... we can't afford that treasure trove to be lost.

That is sad news indeed..

If his decision is taken, a way should be found to at least preserve the archive of updates that is present on the website.

I can only agree with the others. Very sad to hear this but I really hope the work/updates etc can be preserved somehow. Just too good to lose altogether.

Together with Tom Johnson, I help run ADC_VOR. Looking at the F1Legends webpage, just updating that looks like a lot of work. We mostly just use our forum at Speedgeezers to make announcements and post results.

https://forums.speedg...hp?showforum=69

It would be great if F1Legends could simplify it's running and then someone else could host the races. If any help is needed for setting up a server, we can help! It certainly looks like there's a lot of interest in joining races.

Agree with the others, having enjoyed various remarkable updates/mods from Jackseller and F1Legends for years (and organizing leagues/races is a very time consuming and hard job), it's sad to see Jackseller leaving the scene, thank you for all the works, wish you the best!

I've pleaded the case once for a Grand Prix Legends and Nascar Racing 2003 Season section at RaceDepartment. With the sudden loss of NoGripRacing, that site became the new host for GTR², GT Legends, and Rally Trophy content. However there's reasonable activity for at least GT Legends material.
Someone else here could post on that site or contact an admin with an update of the situation. A great benefit of RD is how the Downloads section is broken down in categories and how it handles updates (same download place).

I hope noone minds but I zipped up all the track addons from F1Legends here. I know a lot of them are available elsewhere but hopefully this helps anyone who wants to access them once the site goes down.

This is it. The F1Legends has been shut down forever.

And it says from French to English:
"The F1Legends site has definitively closed its doors. Thank you to all those who participated in this wonderful adventure!"

And that, I believe, is the sad news.
