Hi all

Just over a year ago I posted some pictures of my scratchbuilt Lancia D50 and it seemed to be appreciated.   Here now are a few shots of my latest scratch build project, not exactly a '55 car but the better looking '57 version of the Maserati 250F as driven by Fangio at the legendary '57 German GP at the Ring.

The wheelbase is identical to the Lancia model (as it is in real life) but the 250F was a MUCH longer car.

I'll spare you all the details but suffice to say ... every part ... wheels and tires, steering wheel, chassis, suspension etc ... all made by hand.   No kit parts.

Cheers

Frank

Wonderful, amazing work.
What an effort.

Frank, Hope you don't mind this post link to an attachment with Fangio's own words describing the '57 race?
Think it sort of goes here.

Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for your compliment John and I don't mind the link at all.   I'm of an age that, as a boy in high school, Fangio was my hero so, any reference to "The Man" is fine by me .

Not really a 1955 250F (It's a 1957 250F) but great work nonetheless, mate! The attention to detail is stunning! :D

I love it Frank, you inspired me to make my own cardbord 67 carset. That's a great idea, lets find time to do it...

I think I'm obsessed with old formula, and your model increases that obsession even more...

Johann ... I'm not sure what you mean about making cardboard 67 cars but if I can help then tell me how.

Lovely model. Did you protocol the build as you did the D50? I seem to recall reading a thread at another forum when you posted the D50. Really enjoy reading those.

Thanks Michkov.   Yes, I did a "build log" on another site which you can read.   I didn't keep up the photos and notes right to the end but most of it's there.

I might have to finish it someday.

It's a very beautiful build, congratulations. Unlike those very expensive top-end kits where everything is shiny and perfect, this has an 'organic' look just like the cars from that era.
It reminds me of the first time I saw a 50s Ferrari (probably a 625 but I can't remember) sitting next to Alonso's 2011 F150. You can imagine which one aroused my curiosity the most :)
