Hi All,
I've been providing some assistance to a friend who is setting up GPL after some time away. He installed the 65 mod and asked me which car set he should use out of GPL65FG & GPL65FD I had no recollection of these but when I checked my installation I can see I have them as well but I've never activated either. (I only have GPL65 active).
So, Simple question... What the hell are they and do I need them?
Thanks in advance
TTFN
John.

They are 'trainer' versions of the '65 cars. Lower power.

It used to be, when we just had the 67 cars, the FD was an Advanced Trainer engine (all cars have 270 hp @ 7,500 rpm) with the standard chassis and the FG was the Basic Trainer engine ( all cars have 135 hp @ 5,500 rpm). The simple Advanced and Basic Trainers had much worse tire traction to go with the reduced power.
However, now with GEM, if you select the simple 67 Trainer cars (in the drop-down menu just under the car picture), they all have the tire traction characteristics of the standard cars but the lower powered engines, which is much more enjoyable to drive, just like the FD and FG cars.
That's also the case with every mod now. Choosing the Trainer cars gives you the same chassis, but with lower powered engines.

Racing with these lower powered cars can be a lot of fun with much closer racing. Here's a chart of the various engines in each mod, except for the 55 and CanAm 66 cars.

I always thought of them as Formula 2 and Formula 3, but that's probably not accurate to the real cars.
