Swapping .3Do Files (Car Models)

Hello,

I've been messing around with the '55 mod recently and I want to try to change the .3do and physics models of the Mercedes cars to add an extra Vanwall and an extra Maserati team in their place. I've got the teams re-named and set up so as far as GEM is concerned they are what I want them to be but in-game they still use the Merc models and I think the Merc physics. Could I copy and paste the .3do files and whatever controls the physics (I don't know where either of the two files are) so that although GPL would be loading 'W196.3do' that would actually be a re-named '250F.3do' etc. I've never done much with the actual physics and models before so I don't even know where those files are! Any advice would be appreciated.

You cannot change the physics.  They are locked into the physics slots so the the first slot will always use the Vanwall physics, .etc.

It is possible to change the graphics for each slot.  However, this is an advanced technique and requires detailed knowledge of how to use a hex editor and GPL Track Editor.  It's not easy and one misstep can ruin your installation and cause the dreaded "Could Not Load Track" error.  Don't ask me how I know.  :)

Even if you were able to change the Mercedes slot graphics, they would only show on your PC.  Online racers would still see the Mercedes graphics on their PC.

So it would be better to disable those teams instead of modify them? How might I remove a team from the game completely? I can remove the drivers from the Mercs so they won't show up in a race but the Mercedes teams still in the in-game 'Teams' section. How would I go about removing them, would that need the hex editor etc too?

You cannot remove the Mercedes physics slot from the mod.  It will always be there.

The closest that you can come to getting a blank team in the 'Team Info' section is by changing some graphic pbf files within the layout folder.  For the 2-car (Stratos / Alpine) Rally Mod, I did this:

Ok, thanks all, I'm gonna have a go at what gliebzeit suggested.
EDIT: Ok, I've got rid of all the drivers etc and now the Mercs show up as Anglo-American Racers? The cargraphics settings for them in the gpl55.cst file is the eagle so are they defaulting to the '67 AAR team data for some reason?
EDIT 2: I've resolved that, I'd copied the same team in the gpl55.cst file and so they were all set to use the same graphics and this was making them revert to AAR for some reason.
