Hello guys,
Just wanted to ask about text on the track at Ea Rouge, having some difficulty with a translate from Google. I thought it may have been political in nature.

I'm sorry if this may have been asked before and the reason I'm asking is: I'm making a track section attached to my son's bed. I thought about painting the text to have it look like spa. Wondering if it is appropriate.
His name is Angus and a descendant of the Mackenzie's from the Isle of Lewis so perhaps we'll have a painted tartan on his track.
Thanks for the comments and the beautiful track!
Will we see a credited, respectful conversion to Power&Glory (GTR2) someday?

Edited for clarity.

Well I thought my question about the Francais
to English translation of the track surface would
have generated a response and I may have struggled
be clear about my question. My enthusiasm for the subject
matter kinda veered off track.

I love the historical stuff and the pursuit of authenticity.
This is why I found many common interests on this forum
and I've enjoyed everyone's contributions. The craftsmanship
and passion for this track seem aligned nicely with the work
of the P&G team and I couldn't resist asking, it would be too sweet....
a lot of spa liveries in the mod.

Hi weldmetal12, i'll try to help in this, although my understanding of French is very poor.

There are some options here:

"Front" in French means something like "combat zone", i think. So it could make a reference to the "Battle of Ardennes", which happened in WWI.
See https://en.wikipedia...of_the_Ardennes

But there's also another battle which could be translated with the same name, but this one was in WWII, although it seems this one is known as the "Battle of the Bulge".
See https://fr.wikipedia...le_des_Ardennes and https://en.wikipedia...le_of_the_Bulge

And then we have a film from 1965 called "Battle of the Bulge", based on the WWII battle.
See https://en.wikipedia...he_Bulge_(film) and https://fr.wikipedia...le_des_Ardennes

Being the track based on 1967 maybe it was just film advertising. If i'm correct, Isle of Lewis is in Scotland (i'd bet so as you're talking about making a painted tartan). If your worries are that something of those battles has something related with Scotland, i think you are safe, i've been reading about them in English, Spanish and French and nothing related with Scotland arises.

If it is appropiate to your son, i'll leave that decision to you ;) , but i think there is no problem. Moreover, think that your intention is to paint a beautiful corner of one of the most beautiful racetracks ever. Explain to your son that it has nothing to do with politics but motorsport. And if it makes reference to political stuff, well it's something from the past and there's nothing we can do to change the past, just learn from it. That text belongs to the old Spa, and the meaning you should take is that it's a banner in Eau Rouge corner.

Conclusion: In your situation, i would paint it with no doubt, but again, i'll leave that decision to you.

Hope this info helps buddy :)

EDIT: I thought you were talking about some sign at the side of the track, but i saw a video and a picture and the text is on the tarmac and it prays "Front des Ardennais en colere" so i would discard the film advertisement. That sentence is showing annoyance, so definitely it's some political stuff. Again, is part of the track, this is about motorsport, so i see no problem with that text being there.

TurboMan: Thanks for your considerate response, surely the text on the track must have been there to promote a political movement.
It presents itself as a truly historic time and place with other tensions besides racing happening, and why I asked about it.

If you think it is going to lead to problems do as Brocky05 and your wife said, paint it without the text.

But now, can i ask about a pic when it's finished? :)

I'm hanging on by my fingernails when I fly through that part of the track. The last thing i'm doing is reading what's painted on the track.

Just change the text so it says something like "Clean your room - do your homework."

"nettoie ta chambre!
fais tes devoirs!"

(according to google)

Why not paint it with blackboard paint then? That way you could use it as a chalkboard and chalk on your own messages on to the track!

Paddy: Advice was not my intention. The forum that explores every little detail and the function of a Lotus 49 gearbox,Yes. This isn't PCars forum is it? LOL
I like the stories and thought there may have been a reason why the text was there and what it meant. Threads here are full of information about the cars and tracks of 1967. I've learned more than I thought possible right here.

Yes those are awesome ideas and made me spill my coffee:)
I have a very comprehensive book on the Nurburgring history and maybe I can find something similar for Spa.
