Best news ever, particularly in this terrible year of 2016. Paradoxically, the fact that you're not releasing the 55 mod before Xmas has saved my Xmas: otherwise my family would kill me for sitting in front of my laptop the whole time :D
This is quite the achievement, and I guess it opens a new era for GPL: the future looks bright for our beloved sim!
Meanwhile, I'll dream about that Supersqualo, and of how nastily it will misbehave in Spa or in the Ring: Supersqualo, hmmmmmmmmmm :)

Another teaser. Missing from Stefan's great movie is the dash of the Vanwall. Perhaps intentionally? IMOP this is the nicest that our fantastic modders created. Here is a R/L photo that I believe was used as a basis for that work. I'm sure Ginetto & Greg can confirm.

Words posted by Lee who came across this wonderful picture :

",,,here is a pic I found that supposedly is the Vanwall that raced at the 1955 Monza...

It has ventilated disk brakes so certainly is a Vanwall chassis and the exhaust pipe on the left is high mounted so it probably wasn't a 1954 Vanwall Special as its exhaust was mounted lower.  It also wasn't a Thinwall Special as it didn't have an exhaust pipe that ran along the side to the rear."

I dunno, straight line speed would suffer ;) My dad was going on about the same thing now, new F1 season they get a lot wider tires: https://i.imgur.com/Djgr7F2.jpg old left and new on the right side :) He then said, oh they gona be a lot slower with these new wide tires :D

What a brilliant surprise to see the video. Marvellous features, to add to the whole atmosphere of driving these historic cars.

All that time and effort to produce this is much appreciated. :notworthy: :clap2:

Can't wait to get behind the wheel of these beauties.    :3gears:

Great movie Stefan!  I have to admit as I am more of a fan of the rear engine era of F1, I haven't been pining for this as hard as many have over the last several years.  However, after seeing all the sliding around the cars do in the movie I think I've caught the bug!

Love the brake fade implementation.  Very clever with the indicator lights.

It all looks really fantastic!

Thanks to the mod team!

Yes, the brake fade simulation is very well done.  As we can't 'feel' the brake pedal reaction to too much hard braking.... we need an indicator to warn of impending doom.   Brake management becomes a whole new factor in race planning.  Along with saying this, the perceived feel of tire adhesion vs speed is another truly remarkable simulation.  :)

Can you give us any clue about whether the AI is affected by brake fade and if they also have to deal with it during each race? Or will human drivers get badly out-braked?

Fangio outbraked them all in 1955 :D

I will release what I have in beta form at the time of the'55 Mod release.  Many are early works-in-progress.  Some like Monza 10k and Reims are near completion.... well as far as I can take them.  We are always looking for additional 'talent' for construction of 3D objects, painting textures and new info/suggestions.  :)

    From the '55 Mod Team:
"The answer is that the AI are not affected by brake fade, but the .ini file brake setting is adjusted to give them worse brakes than they would normally have.  So the AI and player braking are about the same."

It is really amazing to see how every new GPL mod is not just a mod, but adds a whole new dimension to the sim. Where "just a mod" means an eagerly awaited, highest-quality addition to our beloved GPL. Thank you to the whole mod team for the great efforts you have put into this and other mods over I don't know how many years, and thanks to Stefan for presenting this mod in the way it deserves!
