I've got a new best friend. The Brabham. I have a couple of questions.

For championship mode I pick the BT20 to start at Kyalami. It will stay with the BT20 for all the races. Shouldn't it switch to the BT24 when it's available? Can I choose the BT24 during a championship, or will it give me back the BT20 in the race?

Is there any performance gained using the BT24 over the BT20? They both have the same HP and weight.

Ok, I did some research. Just like the Lotus 33 shouldn't be used at Monaco. The Brabham BT20 should only be used at Kyalami and Monaco. Then it should switch to the BT24. It doesn't and it can't be done manually either. If i chose the BT24 for Spa it just stays with the BT20.

There should be a performance difference too. Besides the obvious change from the BT20's 640 engine to the BT24's 740 center exhaust engine. The BT24 also had improved suspension, brakes, and gearbox.

I'm disappointed that I can use the BT24 in Championship mode. The BT20 was only used for two of the 11 races. Why choose it for all 11 races? If you were going to pick one it makes more sense to just start Kyalami with the BT24 and use it for all 11 races. Of course using the proper car for all the races is better. What makes it worse is the AI use the proper cars.

Hulme run BT20 at Zandvoort. And then in the rest of the season it was used by Guy Ligier. Thats why you see BT20 in all carsets.

Do they have the same performance in the mod?

Isn't Guy Ligier's car blue?

Pete, as I said BT20 car appeared through whole 1967 seson. That's why you see this car in all carsets. It was used by Brabham team and then by Guy Ligier. I think players car by default is green. But in carfolder there should be option to race car in blue colors.

I don't know every detail, it's better to ask Richard or Chris. But BT20 should be a little heavier then BT24. Engines are the same.

If you want to race BT24 in Championship mode then you have to start the season with factory BT11 car. Which in third carset will became BT24 car :D But I may be wrong.

Edit:This table was made by Chris. I'm not sure if it's shows final carsets structure. But it will give you idea how in Championship mode selected car will change through the season.

That chart is really confusing with some of the combinations. What are the carset numbers in the left column representing? Are those suppose to be drivers? Some of them start with Brabham's and switch to the Lotus 49. What drivers did that?

What i'm after is the start with the BT20 and switch to the BT24. Isn't that what Jack Brabham did? I don't see that on the chart. I sure don't want to simulate being Guy Ligier. He's so slow I usually delete him. All he does is get in the way.

The Brabham is already at a disadvantage when using the BT24 to the Lotus 49, Ferrari and Eagle. I don't want a slower Brabham to race against them. Right now there's no way to use the BT24 in Championship mode. That's not right.

Pete,
c00 ... c30 are carfolders. You can find them in every carset folder from this mod. AI drivers are not fixed to any carfolder, they can change them even during championship mode. Human player can not.

It has been mentioned already that 1967 mod is not designed to run in Championship mode. As you see you can not manually change cars during season, when switching between carsets you may find yourself driving for other car brand, there will be problems with statistics in manufacture standings. So it's better to run championship as single races and then calculate results.

That's disappointing. So many details in the mod and you can't run accurately the only real races they had in 67. Was it too hard to let us choose what cars to run in the Championsip?

Thanks for your help.

I don't mind if I have to use the BT20 for the whole Championship if I knew it had the exact performance of the BT24. Can you find out about that?

Thanky

Yes.

It is a function of how championship mode is coded in the original game and the limitations which that imposes. If you run in a championship in any G.P.L. mod or indeed in the original game then as a human player you cannot change teams (physics slot number) mid season in any of them. It is a function of how championship mode works. In the original game the AI can't do this either, but with the advent of extra code inserted in various mods the AI can now do this so that they do turn up in the correct car at each race. However, for human players this remains impossible and is entirely a function of how the original game was coded and it has nothing to do with how the mod has been prepared. If you start the season driving in e.g. physics slot 2 then this will be the slot that you drive for the entirety of that season.

As others have stated, this family of mods are designed to let you run individual races from the 1967 season in as historically accurate a fashion as is possible within the limits of the game but they cannot overcome the intrinsic limitations imposed by how championship mode is coded into the original game. As Pavel says, the simplest solution to run a complete championship season is to collate the results yourself in some sort of table or spreadsheet and run each event as a standalone race, which was how the mod was designed to operate.

Ok, I understand that now. However, in Championship mode I can start with the Lotus 43 and at Zandvoort it changes to the Lotus 49. Wouldn't that be similar to changing from the BT20 to the BT24?

Just trying to understand.

Oh, I did Leon. I ran a few Championships in the Ferrari. It was a lot of fun and i'll do it again later. I wanted to do all the cars to see how I can do.

Ok Leon. You put the Ferrari back in my head. I'll run it from now on. I'll do what I always do when driving the Ferrari. I imagine my grandparents never moved to the USA from Italy and I was born in Italy. In 1967 I was 25 years old. So, I imagine I was hired by Enzo to drive the Ferrari for the 67 season. I even use my real name.
