Good point Ginetto.
I had in mind how difficult it was for the last demo.
But I think you are right. ☺

Well, creators of the updates wanted them released to the public. A demo with their updates will not feel them anything but proud to be chosen for it. I really cannot see why a released update can be refused to go in a public release together with others updates this being the only difference.

Interesting take on that matter Ginetto, as long as credit is given where its due I doubt most would mind as well.

Thx for this good idea, Saiph. Would be great. A Demo 2016 would also be great, but will take much time to get the permissons of the creators of the updates. And many of the authors are not active with GPL anymore. I can offer webspace for hosting. ☺

Do you know how to pack it all into a single installer Stefan? In anyway I think we should take this to a new thread and not go further OT here.

Agree, we should open a new thread for the 2016 Demo.

I think Bernd Nowak made the installers for the latest mods and for the GPL installer v.07
I don`t know if he did the installer of the GPL Demo 2004.

The GPL Demo 2004 used Tarma Installer v2.77.1590.
It looks like the InstallMate® 9 is the successor program: https://www.installmate.com/im9/

I don`t know how to pack it, but I guess I could figure out how to do. :)

Interesting idea. Full version is available on a similar site. Stefan have you tried approaching them? Sent you the link awhile ago. Maybe they would host the updated version. Or at least post a link to here for updates.

Would be great also if we could get the code directly from Kraemer or somebody else involved in the creation of GPL :)

In the appropriate hands it would render GPL really eternal...

A similar site? Similar to GOG or the obviously pirate site deleted from another thread?
If it is credible/legit maybe post it here?
(Or rather, please PM to me).

Pretty sure there is no source code for Grand Prix Legends...another reason it is limboware is there is nothing to claim rights to.

GOG provides credible authority certifying Grand Prix Legends status.
The more votes the closer it will be to a resolution. This will be a very good thing.
If not already, vote today and secure GPL full version availability.
Then if other things happen, they are other things as well.

I think John is right about the source code.  I remember reading years ago an interview where the interviewee stated the source code for GPL had been lost and didn't exist anymore.  I don't think the interview was with David K, but someone else who had been a part of Papyrus.

Voted. The problem I see is that re-releasing GPL would not only need to revive the IP&code stuff but also all the licenses from the tracks & cars. Its one of the reason the steam version of GTR2 doesn't have all the original cars available, and it's probably quite expensive to re-license them.

Hmm, I think you've made a very good point there. That may severely reduce the chances of GOG being able to do anything.  :(  Still, let's keep :crossfingers:

Thanks to everyone who has commented here, given support, and voted! The vote count has gone up from 349 to 374 (on 16th Nov 2015), so it's heading in the right direction.

I believe there's more than just copyright-related plexus when you're re-releasing an old game who's publisher is long gone.

There's also problem with the subject. "Formula One", or "Formula 1", or F1, whatever. How much CVC Capital goons charge these days for the F1 label? Shudder to think.

OK, it's not F1, It's "Grand Prix". But I believe that the "Grand Prix" term (at least related to autosport) also belongs to someone. Most likely to Bernie and his mugs, or maybe it's FIA. The latter case makes little difference -- they're also cash-hungry and quite angry. Given that GOG is a small private operation and not some multinational gargantuan entity like EA, AB (or even Valve) -- my expectations are quite... quiet. Fingers crossed.

The original license's are still good for the original game. There was never a date stipulation for GPL. Later games were certified for a set period. Once that period expired it's all stop. Not so for GPL.

I don't think there should be a problem, but I'm not a lawyer.

Also note rF2. Old spa, monaco and monza. No conflicts because those tracks no longer exist ( in those forms ) so no current contracts are violated.

What does that mean, "original license's are still good"?

The original license agreement is still valid. There was no time limit to the contract. No expiration date.
