I'm still very addicted to this. +800 hours in snow, mud, gravel and dusty tarmac for me till now - and against some trees from time to time too, LOL...

Pity they are back to usual Dirt formula with forthcoming Dirt 4, that arcade-like and kiddish way is absolutely not for me.

I will continue with this one for sure, maybe less people at online events so I have a chance for better placement... :D

I'm also skeptical about DiRT4 for the exact same reasons, but if Codies are to be believed the rallying part is largely untouched with the addition of random stages.

So I'll surely get it, though with reservations.

Ouch. DiRT 4 is really awful. There is no feeling as to what the car is doing. No understeer. No throttle steer. I had to check twice to make sure I was in simulation mode. The 50fps didn't help. Stay away.

DiRT 4:
I don`t think the feeling is "awful", but different (but I didn`t expect the exact feeling of Dirt Rally anyway).
But so far I have only done the rally school and some rally cups of the carreer mode including a cup of buggie racing (which is great fun).
I haven`t had time yet to take a deeper look into myThrustmaster T500 RS wheel settings within Dirt 4. I have only reduced the overall force to 50 as 100 was way to strong for my linking.
All other wheel settings are still set to default within Dirt 4.
I think I will try my Dirt Rally wheel settings for Dirt 4.
The default settings for Dirt Rally also didn`t feel good in the beginning.
More when I have changed my wheel settings. :)

Edit: I renamed this thread to "Dirt Rally and Dirt 4". :)

Hmmm, bought Dirt 4 but having no luck with it so far.

It loads up, gives me the option to select arcade or serious, set a driver name and then takes me straight to an Australian stage and the game crashes. No options to set screen resolution, input device or any other settings before this happens.

What genius decided it would be a good idea to put the player in the car without giving them the chance to set up the game first?

If they don't patch this within the next week I'll have to ask for a refund :(

Edit: Dirt 4 Refunded. Will go back and play Dirt Rally again, it's been a while and it was a lot of fun.

I really like Dirt 4. :)

Attached are my Dirt 4 Thrustmaster T500RS wheel settings. They are almost the same I use for Dirt Rally.

I also tried these settings, but I feel more confident with mine.

Hi All:

I think I'm down to either purchasing "Dirt Rally" or "DiRT 4" for my PC w/Logitech Momo FFB wheel/pedals. I don't want something that's brutally difficult, but neither do I want something too easy or too juvenile. I can be quite happy with something that makes me "think" it's realistic without getting into all the hand wringing about realism that I'm capable of! I hope either Dirt Rally or DiRT 4 will accomplish my goal. I do have a couple of concerns that I hope those of you that have either of the above can answer:

* Must I be connected online in order to launch either game? That is, does the game verify itself via an online connection before either of these games will launch for solo playing?

* Is the solo play entertaining? (I'm not into online racing/competition.)

I have found this via Amazon:

https://www.amazon.c...ords=Dirt Rally

Once downloaded and installed, can I play OFFLINE without any need for internet connection?

If the answers allay my concerns, I will likely purchase ASAP and begin downloading.

Thanks for any input.

Okay... reading the many reviews between the two (Dirt Rally and DiRT 4), at this point it's a "definite maybe" I'm going with Dirt Rally. Between the two, I'm liking what I see in the videos concerning the behavior of the cars better in Dirt Rally than DiRT 4. (Seems the DR cars can do the all-important tail-out slides on the curves better than D4.)  I'm also reading that in the reviews of each. Many D4 end users are disappointed in the handling characteristics of the cars on gravel because of too much stick in the curves.

So, unless I see/read things that change my mind... I think it's going to be Dirt Rally.

Ain't that sumpthin?

Yes, go with DiRT Rally. MUCH more fun. Yes, it's hard if you go flat out, but if you drive sensibly and tune the AI to match those times, it is fantastic.
Dirt4 drives more like CMR2 with nicer graphics. I uninstalled it and am back to Dirt Rally. Love it.
