I suspected that too. I wasn't necessarily thinking about Dakar, but the Safari Rally and the Rallye Côte d'Ivoire are similar with long stages. They both got close to 5000km in three stages with only a few to several dozen control points. I also thought it might be incredibly difficult to accurately map either of them, even if they only did a few small sections. Plus, there's no telling how much the roads have changed since the mid 80s. Although it wouldn't surprise me much if they are still very similar.
That is a very valid point. Something with DiRT Rally is that the stages that it has are genuine real rally stages. The DiRT forums also have threads were you can see the Google Earth of the actual stages with the game map overlays, so they really have gone to town on proper authenticity in that regard. Something else with DiRT actually is that in most locations in reality the two long stages for that location actually join up with each other either directly or via a very short missing link of road such that they could potentially be joined and run as a single 20 km stage, (run then in either direction), which while not adding any more variety or total new miles of road, would certainly add to the challenge as the driver now has to concentrate for double the time on those stages and that certainly would be a bit more hardcore. That might however not be possible due to the game engine limitations, but, if it were possible then that certainly would be an interesting potential development.
Something else some people have gone on about, which again won't happen is either a track editor for it, or some sort of procedural stage generator that would create new generic stages on the fly. This stuff might make it to DiRT Rally 2 (if there is one), but is not going to happen in this incarnation, so on a lot of levels this probably is going to be all there is in terms of content for it, expect maybe a couple more Rallycross tracks may get added, as Codemasters do have the FIA licence for that series so we may get current season liveries in that plus another RX venue or two. It must cost a lot to produce the stages they have made in the detail they have them though, and so to add more venues now would cost too much to recoup as DLC I would have thought, especially if they are moving to a new game engine for a new version as that effort might then simply have to be duplicated in the (hopefully near) future.
Personally I'd love to have some more tarmac in Corsica and even though it is not WRC, maybe also in Ireland or the Manx, or on Mull in Scotland.

Like you I'd also be interested in the Safari, and other venues that are obviously missing are Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Portugal, which again would all add something extra and different in terms of challenge.
My big hope is that this is a stepping stone to another rally sim that will follow where more of the above is included or at least possible, but I guess there we have to just wait and see. For now, what we do have isn't bad and still has enough interest and replay appeal that 200+ hours in I am still happy to take part in the daily, weekly and monthly time trials and do a few league events.
