Aldo Scribante Race Circuit was built during 1974 and opened at noon on the 30th November 1974 by Mrs Aldo Scribante. The layout of this very attractive circuit is short and tight, but it incorporates just about every imaginable corner combination and calls for real driving skills from competitors. Aldo Scribante has a novel (for South Africa) approach to spectator viewing, with raised banks round the inside and outside of most corners and wide run off areas arranged to give the fans a close look at the action.
The track is named in honour of Aldo Scribante, a racing philanthropist from Port Elizabeth who ran the "Scuderia Scribante" race team. He was most famous as patron of multi South African Champion, Dave Charlton, but he sponsored a number of other drivers from time to time, including Jack Brabham in the 1965 Rand Grand Prix at Kyalami.
