GPL was recommended to me as the best vehicle (sic) for online racing - I'm tired of kids' tactics in a lot of the other online 'sims' so I'm looking for something more 'gentlemanly'!

GPLs learning curve is steep! As per advice in the documentation I've yet to graduate from Watkins Glen and Monza, and have only just managed, after 3 weeks of intensive training, to get the Lotus to qualify on pole (although I can only manage third with any consistency!). I'm still about a half a second off managing a pole at Monza, and won't even mention my race performance.

So, my question ... can anyone point me to resources that may help me out a little eg. Setups that don't send me into the Armco if I brush the brakes, competing against a Lotus with any other car if I stick to the game's AI, where to find online racing for the (total) newbie.

Hope someone can take the time to give me some pointers, even though this will all have been covered somewhere in the forum for sure (yes, I've searched - think needle in a haystack). GPL appears to offer the sim and community I've only dreamed about up until now, and I'm not going to give up without a fight!

For gentlemenly type racing you've picked the right sim, the racing here is generally of the utmost quality, oh and fun too

For setups you should have a look here https://gpltd.bcsims.com/?ir=Setups . I'm not sure if you've visted the Alternative Track Database before but its a great resource nowadays and now has the ability to store setups uploaded by various people, my setups are fairly easy to use as i'm a right foot braker and prefer the car to be nice and stable. You could also check out the Setups section over on the GPL part of the Race Sim Central Forums https://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73

For racing you could hang out on VROC or iGOR and try and find a pickup race to join or you could join a league or club for some scheduled racing, which would you prefer?

One of Dark's setups for Watkins has already dropped my best lap by nearly a second - very slippery but controllable!
Guess I'm looking for scheduled racing but I've still got the rest of the original '67 tracks to learn first.

Thanks for the links - I'm spoilt for choice. So far UKGPL appeals, and as you say Dark, they're looking for noobs. They're also using the 65 Mod, which I find many times easier than the original '67 - I even managed to win my first GP today - the '65 Silverstone. Looks like I'm ready for the UKGPL novices!

Yeah, winning a race in GPL and putting one on pole after just a couple of weeks is very good actually. Many people (including myself) don't do that until after six months or so. (Ok, I ran GPL in 67 back then and kept it at default difficulty and was running single-axis..)

Still, good one. Promising start there - congrats!
